Steampunk Modding: Mac + Remington

Sometimes modders create such chic things that you are simply amazed at how such an idea could have come to someone’s head. And not just come, but also to be realized after some time. So, one of the modders, Steve La Riccia, for a long time owned two rarities: a 1991 Mac and a Remington typewriter, 1897. Without thinking twice, this craftsman decided to combine both rarities into a single whole.

No sooner said than done, and after a while Steve created a modding project called Wozniak's Conundrum. Work on the project lasted quite a long time - about three months, and this is not work that was carried out in fits and starts. The master was so passionate about his project that he literally fenced off from the whole world for these three months.

The 1991 Mac works with Mac OS 7.5. As a mouse, a device created on the basis of a telegraph key is used. This device also includes a 56K modem, which was assembled from parts of old phones. There is also a floppy drive.

Steve came up with an interesting solution as a replacement for the “Enter” button, which, as you know, is not found on typewriters (mechanical) on the keyboard. Instead of this button, a special lever was used, and now the whole system works fine.

The project is now on display at the Mac Store in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
