A brief overview of the new smartphone Nokia N9
At 7 am Moscow time, at the Nokia Connection 2011 event , held in Singapore, we announced a new product - Nokia N9 , a smartphone based on the MeeGo operating system.
Today we will try to talk about him briefly. And, for starters, we suggest watching this video:
Features

Let's start with the design and materials. The Nokia N9 case is made of polycarbonate - a material characterized by high strength and scratch resistance; it is convenient to hold in hands, it does not slip, has a nice matte color. From the gamut of colors, “Black” (black) and “Cyan” (blue) will be available at the beginning of sales. A pink “Magenta” will appear later.

The smartphone’s display is protected from scratches and bumps by Gorilla Glass. It’s worth taking a closer look at the screen: if on other models it was clear that there is a small “air cushion” between the display and the protective glass, then you will not see this in Nokia N9. It feels like you are touching the image directly. Due to this implementation of the display, it seems a little convex.

Smartphone control is implemented through several independent screens. When you unlock the phone, you get to the splash screen. It displays the time, date, missed calls, received messages, etc. If you scroll this screen left or right, the event screen, menu and application manager will appear in turn, as shown in the video.

The event screen is a feed that contains all the news from RSS subscriptions, messages from Twitter and Facebook, weather, calls, SMS and email. Accounts in social networks, mail and various services for storing photos are not just applications, but part of the operating system. Nokia N900 users on OS MAEMO should be familiar with this. In order to send an email, tweet or update the status on Facebook, there are separate convenient interfaces.

The phone’s settings, all standard and installed applications and games are displayed on the menu screen. From standard applications we want to pay attention to the web browser. It was developed based on WebKit2, the latest engine for displaying web pages, which made it very fast and easy to use.

The list of running applications can be viewed on the next screen. From here they can be closed. True, they are not sure that such a need will arise: the resources of the smartphone are enough to keep dozens of applications open. In its implementation, it is similar to the OS Symbian ^ 3 application manager. True, in MeeGo there is the ability to change the display scale using pinch-to-zoom.

Camera in Nokia N9 with autofocus, with the ability to select any focus point on the screen. It works in the photo and video mode. The on-screen QWERTY keyboard supports swype and language changes with a single swipe of the finger. Among other nuances, we note that there are two versions of Nokia N9 that differ in memory size: 16 and 64 gigabytes.
Specially designed for Nokia N9 several accessories. We will talk about them later. Additional smartphone information can be found at conversations.nokia.com and swipe.nokia.com .
