Twice Two = 3DMark Vantage Record

As a result, the experiment ended with a world record in 3Dmark Vantage. The result was 60 335 marks. Details under the cut.
The Intel Xeon X5690 server processors helped achieve this result. Two of these boxes cost us $ 3,700.

For about three months, Smoke hunted for these xeons. Their main value is the presence of 27 multipliers. 27 * 133.3 = 3591 MHz. But no one planned to use such processors at face value. Thanks to a 27 multiplier when cooled with liquid nitrogen, processors can conquer frequencies above 5.6 GHz. This is exactly what Smoke needed to break the record.

Test bench:
- 2 Intel Xeon X5690 processors;
- motherboard EVGA Classified SR-II;
- 2 graphics cards ASUS GTX580 Direct Cu II;
- 2x 2 GB Corsair Dominator GTX2;
- WD Raptor 150 GB;
- Antec TPQ power supply 1200 Watt OC.
Surely, most know little about the 3DMark Vantage benchmark, so I will dwell in more detail on its capabilities and features.
Vantage has support for Microsoft DirectX 10, so you can run it only in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Naturally, the optimizations have done their job and the seven results are better. And to get the maximum result, the 64-bit version is better. But in the case of a config with two processors, better results are obtained in the 32-bit seven.
The final formula for calculating the result is the following formula:
3DMark Vantage = (Weight GPU + Weight CPU) / ((Weight GPU / GPU Score) + (Weight CPU / CPU Score)).
GPU score = (GPU Test1_Constant * Test1, FPS) + (GPU Test2_Constant * Test2, FPS)
CPU score = (CPU Test1_Constant * Test1) + (CPU Test1_Constant * Test2)
Vantage developers have done serious work in the direction of increasing the result from an increase in the number of processors and video cards. Therefore, Smoke preferred a dual-processor configuration. For comparison, the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 990 processor is gaining about 55,000 marks at 6 GHz in the CPU Tests, and the Intel Xeon X5690 pair at nominal 3.6 GHz exceeds the bar at 60,000 marks.
With the choice of video cards, everything was easier. Today, ASUS GTX580 Direct Cu II is best suited for overclocking:

After 6 different modifications, Direct Cu can overclock to 1600 MHz. In SLI, frequencies are much lower. Smoke managed to get a couple of video cards to work at frequencies of 1233/1200 MHz for the core and memory, respectively.
After three hours of torment, I managed to fix the result at 60 335 marks. The merit of Smoke is not only in conquering the world record, but also in the fact that he is the only one in the world who was able to conquer the bar in 60k.

On behalf of the editors, we congratulate Smoke on a well-deserved record.
