Wysips introduced a hybrid display with solar panels

Every day, at various events, prototypes and fully working devices that previously would be considered simply fantastic were demonstrated. The CTIA event is no exception, where many interesting things are already presented, including the concept of a display with solar panels from Wysips. The idea is quite simple - the display is covered with a transparent film, which is a solar battery. The idea, in principle, is good, because it is the display that for the most part is constantly in the light. Mobile phones, communicators, tablets are constantly lying next to us on the tables, and now they can also be charged during the "rest".

Wysips has so far been able to present only a prototype device with a similar display. At the same time, the film produced quite a decent result - 1.2-2.5V in the room where the exhibition was held. Another prototype presented by the company looked a bit worse - it was an iPhone 3G (well, how could it be without it) with an unconnected “solar” film placed under the glass to demonstrate the appearance of the device with a hybrid display. According to eyewitnesses, when changing the angle of the phone there were problems with the visibility of the contents of the phone screen. But, according to company representatives, this is already an outdated prototype of the film, the flaws of which have already been fixed (it is not clear why the displays with new “solar” films were not demonstrated).

So far, the current produced by such a film is not enough to constantly keep the battery fully charged. But if you let the phone lie in the sun (we all remember that in direct sunlight it is better not to leave the equipment for a long time?), Then the device’s battery will be recharged. The efficiency of such a film is 9%, which is pretty good. Of course, there are already solar panels with an efficiency of 40%, but this is still a rarity and clearly a “solar” film cannot provide such an efficiency.

Now the company is busy establishing relations with manufacturers of mobile devices, with telecom operators, and perhaps in a short time devices with hybrid displays will appear on store shelves.
