Six months with BenQ S6

    About half a year ago, I bought myself for fun this device for the diversified comforts. I chose crafts between him and SmartQ, but decided that the 3G module and the full-fledged x86 architecture were worth the extra cost. Well, I decided not to rush right away to write a review of the device, but to wait six months for a better review.

    Let's start with dry info, which in general is not at all difficult to find on the Internet

    As the OS, preinstalled windows XP Home, on the back side is a sticker with a key.

    The cost of the device is ~ $ 400.

    In addition, the device previously came out in two more editions from the HDD with 2 Gb and 4 Gb, there as a system was MIDinux (Chinese OS for linux-based mobile devices).

    In addition, as I understand it, individuals with a camera and GPS live in nature . I immediately draw attention to the fact that there are no drivers for the G-sensor for Windows (and apparently will not). Therefore, one can forget about its existence. Scrolling on the top left, below the button calling benq lancer and the button for calling the virtual keyboard and microphone. To the right is the ctrl button and speaker.

    The screen is quite acceptable for working with a stylus (well, and of course it's just rubbish). Color reproduction, contrast and viewing angle suited me completely. Holds 800x480, 800x600, 1024x768. On the right is a slot for micro SD cards up to 32gb in size (a 2gb card is included) and a 2.5mm headset jack. On the left is a Mini USB to which you can connect any USB devices with an adapter (I chopped up a usb hub and through it a mouse, keyboard, external screw and external optical drive at the same time) and a connector for the power supply. In addition, a mink for the stylus is slightly higher. On the back side there is a stand for installing the animal in an upright position. The battery is removable and just below it is a SIM card slot. Now a little about the completeness.

    In the kit there is a power supply unit (larger, heavier and in no way inconvenient) with an adapter for American sockets, an Asian manual, a cord, a droplet headset, 2 styluses and a Mini USB to USB adapter.

    Oh yes, and a more or less acceptable case

    Well then, now in the case

    Hardware jambs

    The main disadvantage of the device is the short battery life of 1 to 2 hours. At the same time, it is inconvenient to carry charging with you (it is large and heavy), as it forces you to carry a bag under the whole thing. It is possible to wear interchangeable but extended batteries do not exist. As the G-sensor said, it does not work (but you can flash the BIOS and roll MIDinux, it works there). The device does not have a button sending to the device ctrl + alt + del, which is critical on windows-based devices without a physical keyboard.

    Software jambs

    The upper left button causes an absolutely worthless add-on from benq that allows you to open programs from yourself and that's it. The keyboard button brings up a keyboard that has 2 states English and Chinese. There is still such a thing - BenQUtility, in which you can turn on / off 3G and Wi-Fi + Bt, adjust the brightness of the screen and change its resolution. All this can be done only in software. To connect to mobile Internet networks, I indulge in using the bundled utility. By the way, it doesn’t allow calls from the hardware, but the modem itself is connected via mini PCI-e and you can plug in anything instead. A right-click of a mouse button is implemented by holding the stylus in one place for a while (this is problematic in transport).

    OS

    All sorts of Windows XP on it are going well.

    The seven also got up and worked (even the theme of aero) but 8gb of space for it is unrealistically small.
    When installing, people usually have problems installing drivers on Wi-Fi and installing bencuts, it is treated by installing them in compatibility mode. I put all sorts of ubuntu, memba, etc., everyone had problems with the drivers. People put the android (I have not tried it). As mentioned above, you can reflash the BIOS and install MIDinux (but I did not do this either).

    Some problems

    You can Russify the keyboard by replacing the file c: /windows/system32/midosk.exe
    with a program with a Russian keyboard, for example FreeVK.

    I reconfigured the operation of all the keys by replacing the program that catches keystrokes from the c: /windows/system32/midmm.exe buttons with the program generated using AutoHotkey.

    It is worth paying attention to the fact that, in fact, the left two buttons serve the top ctrl + F9, the lower ctrl + F11 to the combination system, and the right one just ctrl.

    I reassigned the mouse to the upper left right mouse button and the task manager to the right.

    My script for AutoHotkey looks like this: There is still such a problem, the bank tool does not work as a user, but it solves writing a bat file that starts the necessary services on behalf of the administrator.

    ctrl & F11::
    IfWinExist Free Virtual Keyboard (www.FreeVirtualKeyboard.com)
    {
    WinClose Free Virtual Keyboard (www.FreeVirtualKeyboard.com)
    }
    else
    {
    Run C:\WINDOWS\system32\midosk.exe
    ;WinWait Free Virtual Keyboard (www.FreeVirtualKeyboard.com)
    ;WinActivate
    }
    return

    ctrl::
    IfWinExist Диспетчер задач Windows
    {
    WinClose Диспетчер задач Windows
    }
    else
    {
    Run C:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe
    }
    return

    ctrl & F9::
    send {RButton}
    return

    conclusions

    Apparently, Benka scored on the device before releasing it, the communities around the gadget that in Russia, in the west are few and underdeveloped, more or less a lot of useful information in the Asian segment of the Internet. In itself, I would recommend the gadget only to geeks - masochists. But to everyone who is still interested or already acquired, I can try to answer the questions that arise.

    PS The device itself has already been sold.

    PS 2 Sorry for the photos from the Internet, there was nothing to photograph, but everything looks the same as in these photos.
