ZTE, a Chinese manufacturer of mediocre telephones and good telecommunications equipment, has decided to try its hand at the MID segment. The manufacturer brought the announcement of the ZTE V7, a four-inch tablet with a QWERTY keyboard and Maemo operating system, to the world exhibition , which is now taking place in Shanghai. The latter, I recall, has so far been used only by the Finns from Nokia.

The ZTE V7 has a 4.1-inch display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The heart of the tablet is the Marvell PXA310 processor with a frequency of 806 MHz. In addition, there are Wi-Fi and GPS modules, support for microSD memory cards, a 3.2 MP webcam and a microUSB connector. It is possible to install 3G CDMA1X and EV-DO modules.

When and how much the device will be sold is still unknown. But given ZTE’s aggressive policies, it’s probably a matter of months and a couple of hundred dollars. Not so long ago, ZTE announced global plans. By 2015, the company intends to enter the third place in the world in the mobile phone market. Now ZTE occupies about 4% of the market and 30% of the Chinese. The last figure inspires respect.
