CloudMade Navigation Supports Maneuver Restrictions

Not so long ago, CloudMade identified several priority areas, among which there was navigation. It was decided to create a special project Navi Studio , which would combine several smaller services and allow them to be used to create full-fledged navigation software. Navi Studio includes:

• Navigation engine
• Vector Stream server
• Local search
• Geocoding

The work has begun to boil and several applications have already appeared using this project. But full navigation without observing traffic rules does not exist, and therefore not a little time was devoted to this issue. As a result, starting on Friday (April 23), the CloudMade navigation engine supports OSM data navigation, taking into account turn restrictions . Edit the map and enjoy the navigation!

Immediately after the launch, small defects were found, which are now in the editing stage, but in general, the routes are built very well and in urban conditions give excellent results. In addition to the limitations of maneuvers, the “turn penalty” mechanism was also included, which for example does not allow you to turn around at the intersection if there is a not very long road without turns to the destination.

I think the day is not far off when CloudMade will announce support for TMC, traffic jams and the search for the best path, taking into account the travel history.
