Have Koreans developed an MP3 replacement?

A group of developers from the Korean Research Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) announced the creation of a new audio file format called MT9. The main difference between MT9 and the popular MP3 is the ability to split the song into six channels, each of which can be used to play a single instrument or voice.

According to the developers, their format can replace the most common MP3 format to date. Whether this will happen is not yet known. But there are already some prerequisites for the popularization of MT9. So, representatives of the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) selected him as a possible candidate for the new digital music standard, and companies such as LG and Samsung plan to add MT9 support to their mobile phones.

With player programs, things are not so rosy so far. To date, only one program can boast of MT9 support - Music 2.0 from Audizen, which, in fact, is engaged in the distribution of the new format.
