A look at piracy

In many media, we only hear about copyright piracy. The pirates stole here, an honest citizen got less profit. But is it?
I once visited a thought. So after all, this is the whole OpenSource with their GPL, BSD and many other free licenses affected! They didn’t receive the profit. And those who shout about profit loss at every corner are cunning. I will give a few examples. Let's start with Microsoft’s “beloved”. How many times has this poor company received less profit from theft of its products. Although stop! Why is the system so widespread? Why is its software dominant in the market? The answer is simple. Initially, everything was distributed by pirates. And no one even put a stick in the wheel for them, not to mention attempts to protect their copyright and put someone behind for distributing counterfeit goods. The flywheel spins. Windows 3.11, then 95, then 98, then 2000, then XP freely penetrated users' computers. Even the super powerful XP protection unexpectedly “broke” with the efforts of Microsoft itself, as a "corporate version" was released with the corresponding activation patches, as well as some very bad hacker uploaded keygen to the network! I'm just sure that keygen has roots in the corporation itself. Windows XP began to dominate the market. Still would. Everyone could put it. What about Linux? Yes, what for this Linux is needed when there is a human-oriented system, and even for free. And there are no "consoles." Even in the confirmation of my words that large companies are not particularly fighting for the protection of their copyrights. Well, for example, everyone still remembers the case of a simple school principal from the Perm Territory. The case was loud. However, from the first statements it became clear that Microsoft has no complaints about the director. Here I understand the policies of Microsoft. Even though pirate WIndows are at school, they all go to future corporation superprofits !!! To hell with copyrights, use it and take care of the children! And if you were Microsoft, you wouldn’t do that?
Let's take other areas of software. Graphics. Here is the full power of Adobe with its Photoshop. Even any processing of photographs for the bulk of people is “photoshop”. No one says gimp. By the way, with Gimp a separate question. Its developers have been hit hard by the pirates. While free Photoshop was distributed to the right and to the left, their product was not properly claimed. It developed a small (in relation to the number of Photoshop users) a group of enthusiasts in fact for themselves. I strongly doubt that Gimp is in demand in organizations, especially large ones. And without their support, the project cannot develop intensively, as Photoshop developed at the time thanks to the whole mass of users of the privat version. There are these clients beat off the "free" photoshop. I would not like these organizations to switch to Gimp now, but thanks to state policy I had to buy photoshop. And what to do, are used to it. This is the “standard."
You can greet other examples, such as AutoCAD, which safely drove the torrents.ru and MathCAD domains into the grave. Due to its "free", all consumer requests were directed specifically to these products, and not to alternative OpenSource, which have completely different mechanisms for making money. And there are no users, no profit, no development.
I think in the face of the cunning of organizations fighting for copyright. Often we have the opposite picture, this is by no means a shortfall in profit - this is superprofit due to piracy, which is taking on even greater proportions due to court decisions. And the users of the "free" Windows, Photoshop, AutoCAD, MathCAD? Think !!! It is you who help corporations develop from expensive products and then submit to you as court decisions the need to pay for them. Think about whether you need these expensive products? I do not urge you to change your point of view. The products are certainly good, but are you willing to pay for them from your own pocket? Why should you pay, and not your employers, who also pay the same corporations as you, and do not financially support OpenSource projects that pursue the same goals,
