Review TDS-12 Miniphone from MegaFon

Since December 31, 2009, MegaFon, a mobile operator, has been holding an action: when connected to their network and topping up an account for 500 rubles, a mobile phone Minifon TDS-12 is given as a present. He will be discussed in this review.

It is packaged in such a box.

The package is modest, although there is nothing more to put to such a phone.

This is how it looks in comparison with other objects.

The buttons are small, but quite comfortable. Missing them is pretty hard.

The back side is decorated with the Megaphone logo almost the entire cover.

On the left side is a miniUSB port for charging.

The device itself is non-separable and the SIM card is sewn inside. But through simple manipulations, this defect can be circumvented.

But still, this instance only works with Megafon and Just for Communication SIM cards. But there are unlocked instances.

The main screen of the phone looks standard. Above is the line for notification icons, below is the name of the operator, even lower is the date, at the very bottom are soft buttons.

The main menu has six items.

The phone can only store SMS messages and contacts on the SIM card. There is no built-in phone memory. The device does not support glued messages; they are saved as several separate messages.

The message editor looks pretty simple, allows you to write in Russian and English in different registers. T9 and other methods of accelerated input are not available yet there is (thanks heap for the help).

    The notebook looks like this.

The memory on the megaphone card is enough for 250 contacts.

The phone has 4 sound profiles, 9 polyphonic ringtones. There is no vibration. The ringer volume is sufficient, but on the street you may not hear it. When talking, audibility is good, comparable to modern budget models. The battery lasts for 2-3 days with moderate use (10-20 minutes of conversation per day).

    So to summarize.

    + Cheapness
    + Dimensions
+ Carries out all the necessary functions
    + Acceptable audibility
    + Acceptable battery
    + T9

    - No internal memory for contacts and SMS
    - Does not support glued SMS
    - Locked (but not all instances, how lucky)
    - There is no vibration call.

I think that this phone is suitable for those who need a second or third device to be always in touch. For such cases, this is a good choice.

    UPD
A few additions to the article from sky_lord .

    1) In the early batches of the phone in the miniUSB connector, pins 1 and 5 are interchanged, because of which the Miniphone will not be charged from standard charges, and its own is able to easily and unconstrainedly kill conventional equipment connected to it. So be careful.

    2) Unlocked phones occasionally come across, but VERY rare. In general, I met only one mention on the forums on the internet ... So the easiest way to consider the phone is completely locked. Unlock through codes, most likely, will not be. There is no free unlocking cable yet. I keep track of the situation - when there is news - I will write in my blog. ;-)

    3) And yes, about the cable. Sequential test points are located under the sticker on the battery compartment. Work through any serial-ttl adapter. Here is more detailed if you are interested.

    4) The pins of the miniUSB connector that are not used for charging have contacts for a wired headset (even the call accept button is supported if the memory does not change). You can buy some cheap and solder. :-)
