Freelancer Hours Tracker - Tahometer.com

    Dear colleagues, I represent the Tahometer startup ( www.tahometer.com ) in your court .

    The task of the Tachometer is to report to the customer about the time spent by the freelancer, to calculate the cost of the work done in accordance with the set hourly rates.

    Hourly pay for work is one of the most attractive forms for a professional freelancer. It allows you to do your own thing and at the same time simplifies accounting. Unfortunately, the "hour" is very difficult to control, and the hours worked are easy to simulate. Often this is why it is difficult to convince a customer to switch to an hourly form of payment. This is where the “necessary evil” appears - the hours worked counter, a system located in neutral territory.

    The first time I saw this was working as a freelancer at odesk. Not much has been said about the moral and ethical aspects of such systems . But the fact that the statistics collected with the help of them allows you to quickly establish trusting relationships between customers and contractors is undoubted. In general, the idea was born to make a public hourly accounting service. What came of this to judge you.

    How does the tahometer time counter work?

    And it works quite simply. You download a small tracker program from the Tachometer website and run it on your computer. The program can work without registration. Every 10 minutes, the tracker sends statistics on your work to the server (screenshots, mouse and keyboard activity, your comments) and allows you to access this information on your personal page. After viewing the stored information, you can selectively publish it.

    What's new:

    - The project can be used regardless of the freelance site;
    - Statistics are kept on the total time and activity time (earned vs effective);
    - You can work without access to the Internet and fill in statistics whenever possible;
    - It is possible to add offline time (meetings outside the computer, etc.);
    - Amounts of hours worked are displayed based on entered rates;

    The name of the project is not accidental. The name tachometer is formed by merging task and hour. It looks like a taximeter (taxi meter). The hourly work itself is similar to the work of a taxi driver: you have a task (end point) and hours worked (route) for which you are billed. Sorry for the analogy :-)

    Now the project is in the initial stage, we plan to launch a number of interesting innovations on its basis. The tracker works under Windows, Linux and Mac. Thank you in advance for any comments and error messages about the service.
