Mentioner - how we chose a location for headquarters

    At first, a small joke:
“Have you ordered a fight? - NOT!
    Late! Paid! ”

The previous post caused a cheerful raid of "silent minusculers." We can’t leave them without a favorite pastime and offer new material for the hawks. Moreover, we, like the heroes of the joke, are “paid” for a corporate blog, already for 3 months (and there we will look at the return, but so far everything is like). Therefore, minus one is not bothering us and is even interesting as an indicator of compatibility with the Habr’s audience specifically. :-)

First we wrote a huge text at 15 kilobytes. It contained a layout of the points why we had chosen an office not in Moscow, but removed a hut 100 km from Samara, brought in optics and put in a telephone, without making any repairs, being content for the first time with a “European-style repair” of 90- x and furniture from the 80s (but no, I bought normal chairs in Ikea).

And then they realized that this was not interesting to anyone and made this short text about nothing (sarcasm), which has only one goal - to once again highlight the Mention . So:

We are building the Mention Book, which should eat as little money as possible (so that advertisers do not lose anything when replenishing the balance, and mentors (our partners placing paid mentions) receive 75% of the earnings. The remaining 25% will go to pay for our expenses.). At the same time, we want to ensure a reasonable balance between the quality of the service (try calling “Blogun”? But first, find his phone number. :-)) and its price. Therefore, our programmer works at home in the suburbs, and we hired and will hire designers (website, the interface of the internal user and logo) at part time (one designer from Moscow, the second from Kiev, our visual should not be at the level, no rural cattle style “Hello from 96”). The office is located on the periphery, we hire people who do not apply for 2-3 thousand bucks of salary and (oddly enough!) While they still work sometimes. Our support and billing will not be in India and not in Mariupol, but near Samara (Otradny, 50 thousand people on Wikipedia). It is profitable and promising, since there are already 9 operating schools, a representative office of a university and a college in the town. Therefore, we will not have problems with a more or less competent staff, since modern youth at the end of educational institutions is quite ready (almost all of them are in social networks, have mailboxes and are completely navigable on the Web, and we are able to learn some materials) to work in support and billing (in the city WiMax appeared earlier than Yota in Moscow), so we will be the best employer after Rosneft (which you can’t get into without relatives) and the flooring plant (hussars keep quiet! :-)) Tarkett (on which all the bosses of Moscow and local with VO work water loaders). Nearby passes the railway (the night of the way to Moscow). And also only 70 km. to the international airport (Germany, Moscow-St. Petersburg every day, or through Kaliningrad to Europe - with a whistle). There are 1.5 hours of flight to Moscow, VNK, DMD, SVO to choose from (accordingly, you can choose what to get to - on Tu-shka, Airbus or Boeing - prices differ, but not radically, plus there are discounted flights) . Also, about 100 km on a flat road to the nearest shopping center, which is no worse than the Moscow Atrium in assortment and fun (by the way, it is preparing for the launch of Mega and Ikea, but about Auchan, Ramstore and Crossroads) and there’s nothing to say - they already exist.). As a result: of course we do not have Silicon Valley, but the necessary infrastructure for living and working, as well as people are available. We are raising the headquarters of the IT-offices of the federal and CIS levels in such a way that the costs of the project office (from Internet to lunch, water transportation and salaries) will be completely incommensurable with the same costs for a similar set of features in Moscow or any another major city. While the phone number will be local rural (+ 7846614XXXX - will be published on the website), connecting directly to the office of the Moscow multi-channel number via VoIP is in the process.

What next: Now we are renting a room in the building of the pension fund of our kibbutz ( our windows to the left of the entrance on the ground floor), but for the future we want to build something separate (and it would be strange if we did not want to). Of course not as global as Googleplex or the office of Oracle , but more or less modern and convenient. For example, this , or this . Everything is real and not worth the unbelievable thousands, builders with hands growing from the right places are also there, but still they don’t have to build a five-wall hut :-). Land acquisition (as well as the supply of communications) on the periphery is not as corrupt as in the center. Moreover, strangely enough, not all the brakes are in power and it is sometimes very interesting for small cities to get new businesses, because this is at least the arrival of money in the form of a salary and the youth remaining in the city.

Photos of the premises and generally about our forests and fields will be in one of the following posts. :-)
