School reform. Utopia. Start.
Inspired by several articles on the school theme ( 1 , 2 ), or rather comments on them.
It is no secret that the level of education in our (and not only) country falls year by year. There are assumptions that this is largely due to the fact that the school is forced to pull "doubles", respectively, it has to slow down the "excellent students". And if the number of “doubles” reaches a certain critical threshold, then the rest of the mass of students very quickly slides to their level. Learning is not prestigious, but cattle-catching is fashionable.
My proposal is very simple and far from new - to divide our entire education into several levels. Actually the way it is now. But I also propose to return one more wonderful thing from oblivion, namely, to lower the threshold of compulsory education from 9 (and now 11 classes are offered) to 5 classes. And also the transition to a new level of education to accompany entrance examinations (even if it will be the notorious exam). At all levels above the initial, cancel abandonment in the second year, but actively use deduction for poor performance. Repeated admission to school - through exams.
A person, having received primary education, will be able to read, count and write without problems, he will have some idea about the structure of the world. To many, this is enough to live and work quite successfully. My great-grandfather had an education in five classes, was a very wise and respected person, the foreman of the road workers.
All other steps are only for those who really want to achieve something more in life. Understand this themselves. Their parents understand.
Why is this needed?
To weed out children who are unwilling or unable to learn from school.
To motivate children and, just as importantly, their parents take their studies seriously.
Here is my short summary suggestion.
A small addition to add clarity:
Having received primary education, the child should become, if not a full member of society, then at least receive an official right to work. And at age 14, get the full rights and obligations of a citizen of the country.
Another addition:
In order for the graduate of the initial stage to have options for further development (except for unskilled work), I propose to give them the opportunity to attend special courses to receive a profession. Actually, all this is already there. The only thing needed is to lower the age threshold from 15 to 12 years.
