BIOS hacker flash drive

Having looked at all kinds of cases for flash drives, both commercial and di-wyne, after reading a number of articles on modding, an irresistible desire was born to try yourself in this type of creativity (to disassemble, break, assemble). This desire coincided with yet another irresistible desire - to get rid of the native case of my USB Flash Drive device.

Having found a corner in the room littered with more ancient achievements of the IT industry, he began to scan these things for flash-case-like elements.

    - Yeah, picking up one of the motherboards, my eyes almost immediately fell on the BIOS chip, it seemed to fit, everything seemed simple. I rushed into the Google index. However, my search did not end with viewing a bunch of photos and reading the manuals for making these geek drives.

Therefore, the purpose of this post is to eliminate this misunderstanding. Moreover, as a result of customization, a completely solid thing will turn out.

For manufacturing, we need 4 types of memory:
    • flash drive
    • standard chips from the old motherboard, or video card,
    • three inch floppy disk
    • ordinary human memory, preferably with an information storage period of more than an hour))

It also requires glue, preferably a second, a knife, pliers or strong fingers.

    1. But first, select the USB flash drive:

The smaller the flash drive, the better, the color of the plastic in which the contacts are soldered must be black, otherwise it will not be patsansky (not the color of the chip chips).

    2. Breaking

In principle, you don’t need to be careful with the case, you won’t need it anymore, you will have to be careful if the manufacturer of your flash drive has shown excessive consciousness and soldered the ends of the tin shell into the board. For dismantling, you can use a soldering iron or, again, strong fingers. I was lucky with one flash drive, I had to use a nail heated over the gas against the rest.

    3. We get chips

The chips get well enough if you are careful not to get them together with the connector soldered to the board for them. Stickers tear off is unnecessary, usually they are holographic and pleasantly shimmer with a spectrum.

    4. Glue

We measure the USB flash drive, for the new housing to be plugged (it is customary to connect the chips, as shown in the previous photo) and finally glue it to the chips. It is desirable that the glue does not spill out.

Also at this stage it is necessary to attach the fastener for the hook, it can be in the center or on the side, depending on whether you will drag it around the neck or with a keychain.

    5. Add volume

In order to restore the performance of the flash drive, in particular the size of the plug with the contacts, in order for it to properly enter the USB connector and hold there, we need thin plastic, just the one from which our diskettes are made is suitable.

Now you have the answer to the question: “what the hell do you keep a stack of these old floppy disks if you don’t even have a floppy in your computer?”

We cut 3 pads: one stick on a wide plane (Zaya, let's go on the one that has no contacts), the other two On the sides. We measure. We grind it lightly with an ordinary knife.

    Done!

If you wish, you can give her a name ...
"- Okay, then I will leave you a flash drive with prices, only you be careful, by the way, her name is Marina, too."

And if you are joking, then Marinaflash drive makes a certain impression on people. For example, having dragged a resume on it to a recruitment agency, all the staff began to offer me exclusively admin vacancies and was quite confident in my competence, without looking at what I wrote.

Also, requests for help with a computer and questions of such a plan have become more frequent:
    - Listen, is it true that with the help of "artmani" you can generate "webmoney"?

I hope my post encourages action.
