How they stole Webmoney from me

    The story of how Webmoney was stolen from me and how I returned them.

    Chapter one. Theft.

    It was in early July, I’m sitting at the computer, WM keeper is running, I’m not touching anyone, suddenly the Windows shutdown screen appears and nothing happens ... I thought at first that the update downloaded and installed, I didn’t touch it. As a result, he turned it off and only turned it on again in the evening and was horrified to find that 250WMZ had disappeared, transferred to an unknown wallet with the note “budenovka”.

    As luck would have it, a couple of days before this, my antivirus license was expired. The thing is clear - they stole it with the help of a trojan. What to do xs - I write to support webmoney, they say, it was stolen, a trojan, what to do. At the same time, I found how to lock an attacker’s wallet for a day (it costs 5 bucks, then it’s returned). I get the answer to the next. day, they say, check the security settings, you probably had a trojan on your computer. Great answer. The lock by this time has already ended. I am writing again and already find out that it is possible to file a lawsuit in arbitration.

    Chapter Two Certificate.

    Filing a lawsuit costs 10% of the stolen amount (i.e. 25WMZ). And it is not known whether the money will be returned and whether the attacker still has it at all. The trial begins, both WMIDs block (only for outgoing operations), the defendant does not appear. I ask the arbitrators if it makes any sense to continue the lawsuit, maybe there is no money in that wallet already. What I get the answer "Funds on the defendant's wallet are available." I’m

    paying for a lawsuit (it’s good you can’t do it right away) and the funniest part starts - I need to have a personal certificate to continue the proceedings.)) In order to get a personal certificate, you need to provide reliable information about yourself (including passport details) in the WMID profile, and then pay the fee 10WMZ and send to Moscow by mail a notarized statement with a copy of your passport. After that, a certificate will be issued within 1-2 months.

    Then I was spurred on by a new surprise. In my WMID, I indicated the data on the left (I just drove the gibberish during registration), and you can only change the data (more precisely, first and last name) to the correct one. way - register a new WMID with the correct data, get a personal certificate on it, then write and send a notarized statement of data change.)) And then the old WMID will be linked to the personal certificate of the new WMID. Both applications can be sent simultaneously.

    At the end of July I wrote both statements, notarized them on the second attempt (the first were blots), after serving the queue and paying something about 400 rubles, I sent Webmoney to the Moscow office.

    Chapter Three Return.

    I waited a couple of weeks, then I wrote just in case about whether the documents were received - they say that they were received, but there is no copy of the passport, then I sent scans by email and on August 12 they issued a certificate for a new WMID, and on August 17 they tied the old WMID to the certificate, I immediately notified the arbitration.
    The next response to the lawsuit appeared on September 25, but was closed for viewing (as it later turned out there was a vote of the arbitrators on the lawsuit). And before that I wrote to the arbitration, and created tickets in support, with the question of when at last there will be at least some progress, but no one answered me.
    On October 9, finally, a new message appeared: " An application has been submitted to the certification center for transferring control of the defendant’s WMID to the plaintiff ." and the previous message opened, with the following contents:

    Voting: Dear arbitrators. I propose to complete the proceedings on this lawsuit. Recognize the defendant guilty and transfer the plaintiff control over the WMID of the defendant. Deny service to the respondent. Results: For: 2Approved: 0

    The lawsuit was closed on this.

    Meanwhile, my WMID is still blocked, all this time it received funds that I could not dispose of. I wrote to the support - they unblocked it.))

    On October 13, I received a letter from WM keeper light with a one-time (and it’s written) link to restore access to the attacker's wallet. I opened this link in the opera, the registration process started, and at the end the system gave me - your browser is not supported. I tried it in IE - it hangs at the stage of loading ActiveX.

    I decided that the link was no longer working and wrote to send a new one ... no one answered within a week, then wrote to the arbitration and those. support to send the link again. Finally I phoned the support team and they found out that the link was working, but my browsers were simply not configured. I set it up, got access, my money is (250 bucks and some penny), I try to transfer it, it writes an error: " Error: Incorrect correspondent ID "

    I write to support, after a few hours they say that they allowed me to transfer from the responder’s wallet to the wallet the plaintiff. Translated.))

    That's the way I returned the stolen money.

    Costs:
    $ 25 lawsuit
    $ 10 certificate
    ~ 400r notary + statement printout + cost of sending a letter

    Total about 1500r, a bunch of nerves and 3.5 months of waiting.

    The moral is that it is very desirable for honest users to have a personal certificate, because in case of any problems this will help to save a lot of time and nerves. On the other hand, you cease to be anonymous and, as a result, you may have problems with the tax inspectorate, or even other state. bodies.

    UPDATE : If you have stolen Webmoney, the first thing you need to do is file a claim with arbitration ( arbitrage.webmoney.ru ) for WMID where the money went, after which it will be possible to block the attacker WMID for a day for a security deposit of 5 WMZ (they will return when the lock ends).
    Then you need to file a lawsuit in arbitration with a description of the situation (you don’t need to pay anything yet and the pers. Certificate is also not needed yet) and ask them - “Is there money on the purses of the attacker”, if there are no funds, then it’s unlikely to be able to return if there - pay the claim (10% of the amount), get Pers. certificate (if not yet) and wait.
