I saw a couple of his works a year ago and hated him passionately.
I went to see yesterday to make sure:
Cannon meat, pigments and curved space - a modern sculpture, as I see it, is not a little bit small. Or my brains are already composted by Teit, I do not exclude such an option.
I will describe briefly - the Royal Academy, a very old and beautiful building, full of gray, boring art of academicians. The cannon, and the whole room is splattered with red wax meat. The cannon shoots every 25 minutes, rumbles for the whole academy and gets into the next room, everything is around in pieces of meat, and every 25 minutes a lot of meat grows. And so it will be until the end of the exhibition.
Or: train. creeps very slowly, almost imperceptibly, at the academy a vile looking train made of wax, like meat. all.
I'm interested in it:
1. works with the concept of sculpture, I have a very close and painful topic, because I myself struggle with the concept and perception of photography as a means of documentation and image, I struggle not very successfully.
2. Complex ideas are easy and fun to express. I like when there is a show, when it is addictive, shocking and laughable. when you want to bring people out of the circle and they may not be caught, but they will like it. this is not populism in my understanding, this is talent - the ability to captivate others.
3. bright colors, expressive abstract large forms - the work at the same time looks and feels minimalistic.
4. communication art - all whom I love, and whom I don’t even know, of whom I love - Rothko, Pollock, Serra, Neshchman
5. Klein called a special shade of blue IKG (Klein Goluboi’s International). I will name my pigeons Natasha, why not.
6. I’m interested in his idea of perception and space - oh, interesting to think of!
7. His work is a sculpture (form), painting (color), theater (movement), architecture (space). I myself interfere a lot with my work, I can’t understand why it’s so confusing for me to mix, I’ll probably catch it later.
