Social network, website, portal and startup for artists and illustrators illustrators.ru
Meet Illustrators.ru !
Since I myself worked for a long time as an illustrator, a few years ago the idea came up to create a site that would bring together under its leadership professional authors from all over the former Soviet Union. After the collapse of the USSR, the profession itself virtually disappeared, leaving an army of aging unemployed book and magazine illustrators. And only in the early 2000s, new authors began to appear, who, unlike the old guard, draw on computers with the help of a wonderful wonder - the Wacom tablet!
The main difference from specialized resources was that the site had a system of pre-moderation of authors. The site could not get novice authors and fans to "draw." Only professionals who earn illustration for a living. During this time, not many authors have registered on the site, only about 1600. But these are really professional authors and this is why the site is valuable in my opinion first of all and this value should be saved for posterity :).
The first version of the site was launched in 2006, after about a year and a half, a second updated version appeared, but on the same generic PHP engine, essentially only the design was changed.
This week we launched the newest version, moved to completely new "rails" :) And we changed a lot, even the ideology of not allowing beginners to the resource. However, novice authors will not fall into the general directory, but will have their own separate sandbox with limited rights and tools. In the future, we want to monetize the resource specifically for beginners who are willing to pay for full-fledged functionality and the ability to enter into dialogue with professional authors. For professionals, the old rules will remain and they will be able to use the site for free.
I would like to develop the value of the resource not only for authors, but also for customers, since it is customers and market formation that determine such a profession as illustrator.
In connection with the above, I want to get comments and thoughts about a possible resource strategy. Where it is better to move and the main thing is to improve qualitatively, so that the resource becomes even more useful to both authors and customers. Just general thoughts. I would be grateful for any comments and thoughts expressed.
Thanks to all!
Threat. And of course, there are still a lot of shortcomings on the site that need to be fixed, the obvious ones can not be written, we can see them anyway, but if there are any interesting suggestions, then we will definitely take them into account in improving the site.
