What is MODx?
MODx is a free site management system and framework for creating open source web applications under the GPL. The system is incredibly flexible and easy to learn!
I can say from myself that they have been waiting for this release for a long time. Finally, glitches with the Russian language disappeared. After installation, nothing needs to be adjusted with a file to make it work. Well, also a new convenient front end editor. And a lot of tasty little things.
The Evolution version is the completion of the 0.9.6.x branch, and now work on the MODx 2.0.0 Revolution version is in full swing (you can download it too).

We brought the terminology in line with the upcoming version of Revolution
Be patient, MODx Revolution will be available soon this year. Revolution is much more suitable for complex projects and has a much more flexible API. The main changes in the terminology (somehow these changes are not particularly pronounced in the localized version, except for the first two, approx. Per.):
- Resources → Elements (Snippets, Chunks, Templates, etc.)
- documents → Resources (as in the abbreviation Universal Resource Indicator / URI)
- resource browser → File Browser
- folder (on the MODx Site Tree) → Container
- folder (on the filesystem) → Directory

The convenience of creating localized versions and custom builds

Threw away the excess
Over the years, we have accumulated a little extra code, and now we decided to get rid of it!
- Simplified and integrated the JS libraries used in the control panel
- New control panel template

- They reduced the number of files and the size of the distribution, despite the additional language packs of the installer and the control panel. There were 2382 files (15.6 MB) → became 1804 files (13.6 MB)
1.0 !? Haha children!
I want to warn you against one misconception. The thing, apparently, is that the MODx developers were not at all embarrassed by the magic of numbers and for a very long time they calmly made stable versions with numbers less than one (0.9.6.3, for example).
But at one point, they decided to make version 0.9.7 by rewriting the source code again. Half a year after the start of work, they decided that such a volume of work deserves version 2.0 and the name Revolution (absolutely right? By the way!).
And in branch 0.9.6 they decided to release the final version 1.0 Evolution, the birth of which happened on the last day of July.
