The word "twitter" entered into the dictionary
The scientific community has recognized Twitter and has included the word in normative English. British philologists contributed it to the 30th anniversary edition of the Collins English Dictionary , which will be published this year. The word fell into the dictionary both as a noun and as a verb.
The noun “twitter” is “a website where people can post short messages about their current activities,” the definition of the verb “to tweet” is “write a short message on Twitter.” In addition, the nouns “twitterati” (twitter users, Twitter users) and “twitterverse” (twitter world, website and users) will be added to the dictionary.
This is a definite success for the young service that was launched.just three years ago, and during this time managed to become part of popular culture and literary English. For comparison, the verb “to google” took twice as much time to get into the dictionaries (this happened in July 2006).
