New version of Chrome: even faster

With the launch of our new browser - Google Chrome - it's been more than eight months, and during that time we have heard a lot of feedback from you. You praised its speed and convenience and sent us your wishes. We carefully read this “Book of complaints and suggestions” and worked hard to make Chrome even faster and more convenient to use. We implemented many of these innovations in the beta release of the browser , which was available in March of this year and still tested these innovations. At the end of last week, we removed this version from the channel for developers, and Chrome in the public version received the prefix "version 2".

Here are some of the changes immediately visible:

Improved page for a new tab:many of you said that you would like to customize the thumbnails of the pages there . Now they can be controlled - finally, you can delete the "entertainment" sites in the browser of your work computer and create the appearance of a busy person.

Full-screen mode: Chrome’s design aims to make the Internet bigger on your screen (literally). Small interface elements - the address / search bar can now also be hidden by pressing the F11 key and switching to full-screen mode.

Autocomplete forms: often you have to fill out many forms on Internet pages, and to facilitate this task, we created autocomplete. Now the previously entered data (first name, last name, email address) can be selected from the drop-down menu. You can delete them from the "Tools" menu, or simply by highlighting in the list and pressing the Delete key.

And here are some of those changes that are invisible to the eye, but very useful in everyday life:

Increased stability: Now Google Chrome is even more stable - since the launch we have fixed more than 300 bugs that cause the program to crash.

Faster Speed:Yes, we are still obsessed with the goal of making navigation on the Internet even faster. Thanks to the new version of WebKit and the improved JavaScript engine - V8 - interactive pages are now even faster. We also made sure that the JavaScript engine works efficiently and quickly even with a large number of open tabs. Try opening some of your favorite web applications and running your favorite test . Read more about V8 in the note on scaling JavaScript on the Chromium blog.

Here's what Google Chrome Product Manager Brian Rakowski told us about these updates (video in English) :

If you are already using Google Chrome, updating to the latest version will happen automatically in the near future. You can also select "About Google Chrome Browser" from the Tools menu and manually update the browser. If you aren’t already familiar with Google Chrome, you can download the latest version at google.com/chrome .

And finally: we call the new version Chrome 2, but this designation is more likely to enable us to monitor browser changes ourselves. We are not tied to the official version numbers of our product and will regularly release useful updates.
