GraphiCon'2009: a set of articles will last until May 25

    A conference on computer graphics and machine vision GraphiCon'2009 (official website http://gc2009.graphicon.ru/ ) will be held on October 5–9 in Moscow at Moscow State University . For the 19th time, recognized world-class scientists and novice experts will gather at the conference to exchange experiences, present their achievements to a wide range of interested parties and communicate in an informal setting. GraphiCon is the largest scientific conference on graphics and computer vision in Russia and the CIS countries. In 2008, the event was attended by over 400 participants, including representatives from Italy, USA, Germany, and the Netherlands. The conference highlights the latest achievements in areas such as:

    • graphics and multimedia;
    • image and video processing;
    • machine vision;
    • CG (Computer Graphics) and CV (Computer Vision) applications.
    A detailed list is in the Conference Topics section .

    At the moment, a competitive selection of articles has been announced, which will last until May 25 . Articles written in English go to the international part of the conference, and Russian articles will be presented as part of the School for Young Scientists. The following formats of materials are allowed: full article (up to 8 pages), short article (up to 4 pages) or abstract to the poster. In 2009, the number of accepted articles was increased, and if the article does not go through the competition as a full or short report, it can be accepted as an abstract and you can talk about it in a poster session.

    All received articles are carefully checked by the international program committee.. Notification of the results of the review of your article will be sent until July 27. Accepted articles are presented at the conference in the form of reports. Accepted posters are displayed at the poster session in the form of posters in A0 format. Both articles and abstracts of posters of both the international conference and the School of Young Scientists are published in the proceedings of the conference.

    Graphicon'2009 will be held in two stages: “The School of Young Scientists” in the first two days and sections of the international conference itself in the next three days. The School of Young Scientists (previously held in the summer and called the Summer School) includes master classes, tutorials, a poster session and lectures on fundamental, theoretical and practical issues of CG and CV. Visitors to the “Summer School” -2008 learned the practical art of presentations and technological entrepreneurship; Learn about 3D visualization in Autodesk Maya and GPU programming with NVidia's CUDA technology. We saw how robots are designed in practice and participated in the Intel quiz.

    The second part of the “Graphon” - an international conference - is held in English. It traditionally consists of the following events:
    • sections of full reports;
    • sections of short reports;
    • poster session;
    • industrial presentations and multimedia demonstrations;
    • round-table meetings;
    • speeches of invited speakers.

    Every year, world scientists and representatives of well-known companies are invited to participate in the conference. So, in 2008, among the invited speakers was a professor at UC Berkeley University, Brian Barsky, on the topic of Vision-simulated imaging ; representative of the company Elena Shumilova spoke about the achievements in the field of educational technologies in Autodesk; Michael Doggett (AMD) described the architecture of Radeon graphics cards; and Alexander Chipizhko (Intel) shared with the audience the company's view on Visual Computing.

    This year, Alexei Efros, associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University, will be a guest speaker at the conference., creator of technology for automatic removal of defects from photographs, a method for reconstructing a 3D model from one photograph, and algorithms to increase the realism of computer-generated images.

    Graphicon'2009 is supported by the Eurographics Association , Intel Corporation and the Institute of Applied Mathematics. M.V. Keldysh RAS . The event is organized by the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University .
