Interplay, which previously owned the Fallout brand license, will release an online multiplayer game based on the cult post-apocalyptic universe in the near future. Masthead Studios , the famous MMORPG Earthrise, based on the movie Aeon Flux, will take on the development of the online Fallout .
Interestingly, Interplay seized on almost the last opportunity to develop Fallout MMORPGs. The fact is that under the terms of the agreement between Bethesda (the current owner of the rights to the Fallout universe) and Interplay, the latter reserved the right to make an online multiplayer game "based on". And only on the PC. And they could start development at Interplay only within two years after signing the transfer of rights agreement. Since the “measured” two years end just the other day, the announcement of the start of work is more than timely.
A couple more interesting facts. Under the terms of the contract, Interpay must necessarily include a single-player game mode in its new online project. And access to the game on the Web will have to be by subscription. In addition, Interplay should have a considerable budget: $ 30 million.
To find out if Interplay and Masthead Studios can do anything worthwhile (or at least get to know what they were going to do), it will be possible, supposedly, closer to summer, when the official website of the project under development will work.
