Hi, developers! As you may have already heard, users around the world began to receive messages from their Android devices about updates containing new features and functionality. You may also have noted that the update appears to be “Android 1.1.” Applications written using the 1.0_r1 and 1.0_r2 SDKs will continue to work just fine on Android 1.1. But, if you want to take full advantage of the new API version 1.1, you must upgrade the SDK.
And that’s why I let you know that the Android 1.1 SDK, release 1 is now available. See the list of innovations as soon as possibleThe current API changes are simple but useful. The new SDK contains all new APIs, as well as a new emulator image for testing your applications. If your Android devices are purchased at retail, contact the operator to complete the update. An updated image of the v1.1 system for Android Developer Phone 1 will be released soon.
In addition to the new API, the emulator also contains improved capabilities for testing localizations (translations) in German. Translations for other languages will be added in future releases.
You can download the updated SDK using the links above. Happy coding!
