Seagate announces its 2 terabyte

    Following Western Digital , Seagate announced its two-terabyte hard drive. It belongs to the new Constellation ES line, which also has 1 TB and 500 GB models. Some models are equipped with a SATA interface (3 Gbps data transfer rate), and some are equipped with SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) with a maximum data transfer rate of 6 Gb / s.

    As with the new WD , Constellation ES drives feature an automatic power reduction system. And without reducing the spindle speed to 5400 rpm. Full 7200 rpm provided. SATA drives have 32 MB of cache, and 16 MB of models with SAS.

    Whether Seagate will be the second in the list of companies marked with a 2 TB HDD is not yet clear. Competitors may be ahead of the curve: Constellation ES drives intended for data storage systems are expected to appear on the market in the third quarter of 2009.
