Chrome will always remain in the "endless beta"

Google announced that its Chrome browser will be in “endless beta testing” mode. Users will have three options for updating copies of browsers, varying in time intervals. Despite the fact that the formal “beta” label from the browser was removed about a month ago, Google says that updates for the browser will be distributed through beta channels.

The company intends to abandon one channel of browser updates. Mark Larson, Google Chrome’s technical manager, said the Internet company has three different channels through which versions of different readiness will be distributed.

“Channels, in essence, will provide endless beta testing and continuous user feedback. This mode allows you to quickly adapt new ideas that grow into the final product, ”he says.

Three channels will include a stable preview version, beta version and development version of the browser. Stable in this case means that all the functions implemented here were previously completed and “polished”. The beta version is intended for a wide range of computer enthusiasts, testers and will be updated once a month. “The beta channel will be more stable than the development channel, but here the stability of new and some previously introduced features is not guaranteed,” he says.

Development option means "very unstable option", which, however, includes all the latest features. This option probably can sometimes require manual refinement of the browser.

First, users will be offered a small utility that, when installing the browser, will be able to transfer it to a specific channel. Larson says that Google will offer users the widest possible access to a browser that other developers, such as Microsoft or Mozila, do not offer.

The latest development version (2.0.156.1) was released last Thursday. This includes new features for autocomplete, predictive input and some other improvements. This version also comes with a new version of the WebKit engine and a new version of Google’s own development - the Javascript interpreter V8.
