Mozilla stops supporting Firefox 2

The Mozilla Foundation officially announced the complete cessation of support for the Firefox 2.0.0.x browser in mid-December, despite the presence of several serious vulnerabilities in the latest version of this browser. According to plans , support for the previous version stops exactly six months after the release of the next. Now developers will concentrate on finalizing the main version 3.0.0.x, which was released in mid-May.

The termination of support also applies to the Gecko 1.8 engine, which, in addition to Firefox 2, also runs the Thunderbird 2 mail client and some third-party browsers such as SeaMonkey, Camino (for Mac), Galeon (for Linux) and other projects. However, support for Thunderbird 2 will continue through the official life cycle of the product, despite the "freezing" of the kernel.

For reference: more than 8% of the Habrahabr audience use browsers of the Firefox 2.0.0.x family. In the near future, they should definitely upgrade, because even security updates for Firefox 2.0.0.x will not be released. The latest release will be Firefox 2.0.0.19 soon.
