Non-touch touchpad
I understand that in the title - the concepts are not compatible. But Alps Electric is exactly what [Non-Contact Touchpad] called its new development. This is a capacitive sensor technology, with which it is possible to determine the position of the finger at a distance of about three centimeters from the surface.

The development demonstration took place at Alps Show 2008's own exhibition, during which some unique features of the new technology were shown. So, for example, moving your hand from one side of the touch pad to the other, you can start watching the video. A rewind of the roller is carried out by turning the palm.
Alps Electric calls the ability to control a laptop even with dirty hands one of the advantages of non-contact technology. It's funny, but in some places it is in great demand (do you eat at the computer?;)).
To date, the capabilities of the prototype are limited. But Alps Electric is not going to launch the device into production right tomorrow. Modify, apparently, will be long and hard. But the idea is interesting.
