Power backup in the Maria-Ra data center
The network of grocery stores self-service "Maria-Ra" is perfectly familiar to residents of Siberia. Currently, the network has more than 800 stores in 223 locations of the Altai Territory, the Altai Republic, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Kemerovo regions. In November 2016, another data processing center for the Maria-Ra network was commissioned in Novosibirsk. Work on the project was carried out by one of the largest system integrators in Russia - the CTI company. “NAG” supplied equipment for the uninterrupted power supply system for this project. The equipment of the data center was placed in a relatively compact room, so the problem of cooling the server room was solved by isolating the cold corridor (Cold Air Containment System - CACS). For CASC cabinets must be placed in two rows opposite each other. In this case, the cold air supply area is blocked by the roof and doors or curtains, creating an isolated space.
As a solution for the implementation of such a scheme, we put the isolated telecommunications corridor MetalBox . The distribution of air flows is due to the fact that cold air is supplied to the insulated cold corridor through perforated raised floor panels. The width of the corridor itself is 1.2 meters. It is equipped with sliding doors.
What are the advantages of such a data center organization scheme? The corridor isolation system reduces cooling energy costs. This is achieved by improving energy efficiency. Up to 50% energy savings compared to traditional air conditioning.
The design of the corridor consists of modules, which allows it to be scalable and expandable.
In general, MetalBox is an optimal solution for cooling data centers of large and medium scale.
Server equipment placement
Server equipment was placed in MetalBox cabinets. Due to their design, they are excellent for organizing an isolated corridor. With the help of additional dividing shelves and doors, cabinets are easily transformed from single-section to four-section or two-section.
Each section is equipped with an individual door with a lock. By the way, this division into sections is convenient when servers are independently placed in commercial data centers.
We will not praise the design of the cabinet , due to the fact that there are generally similar solutions on the market, however, we note that the cabinets will not spoil the picture of both the office and industrial premises. The reinforced design allows you to install equipment weighing up to 1200 kilograms.
Access to equipment located in the cabinet can be provided from four sides thanks to removable side panels. They are also equipped with locks. Cable entry is provided, both above and below. Unevenness of the floor is compensated by the swivel rollers and screw supports in the base of the cabinet.
Responsibility for the security of the power supply of the data center was assigned to our own development - Modular uninterruptible power supply 100 kVA HPM series. “Bespereboynik” manufactured under the brand SNR perfectly copes with the task of protecting the three-phase power systems of server, data center, industrial and medical equipment from power outages, drops and distortions of voltage and frequency, pulsed and high-frequency interference.
This type of “bespereboyniki” is great for a growing business. By gradually increasing the number of modules, redundancy and flexible capacity expansion is ensured. That is, you can start with a basic configuration of 10 kVA power and expand it to 200 kVA. The possibility of parallel operation of up to four UPS at the same time also opens up a wide field of possibilities for increasing capacity. Thus, the power of four parallel UPSs can reach 800 kVA.
Among the main advantages of UPSs of the HPM series over competitors are high (up to 96%) efficiency in the double conversion mode, as well as zero switching time without transients at the output. The new platform provides protection against overvoltage, short circuits and possible overloads. The UPS is equipped with an active PFC (Power Factor Correction) filter, providing a power factor close to one. This allows you to protect other consumers of the network.
Chassis UPS is equipped with an LCD monitor, through which you can monitor the status of each module. Also monitors are provided on each power module separately.
