But we know many examples that develop without an invite system.

Invites fuel interest, it is indisputable. But since we are talking about a startup, it’s worth considering, is it advisable to immediately switch to an invite system?
My recipe is this - make alpha, the entrance for everyone and everyone; we launch beta - we introduce invites, and we leave the opportunity to invite only to users with high karma . And most importantly - the person who invited the new user is now responsible for him, and a change in the karma of the invitee , slightly, but is reflected in the karma of the invitee. I think this is fair.
