Official: Google Phone Does Not Exist


    Google phone does not exist. As it turned out, the search giant, in collaboration with 34 companies, including major manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG, developed a software platform for phones. It will be provided free of charge to phone manufacturers and will significantly reduce the cost of high-end functional devices.

    “Today’s announcement is much more pretentious than the Google phone announcement, which the press has been talking about in recent weeks,” says Google CEO Eric Schmidt, “we think our powerful platform will become the basis for thousands of different phone models.

    The first devices based on this software platform will appear in the second half of 2008. Around the same time with Nokia touch smartphones.

    As it turned out, instead of the phone, Google introduced the Android software platform. Its developers are members of the Open Handset Alliance, with 34 companies. Among them are manufacturers of telephones, processors and other hardware, operators and manufacturers of software.

    Android - a full-featured platform consisting of an operating system, middleware, user interface and a set of applications.

    An open and free software platform will be available under an open-source license. This allows operators and developers to modify the system without significant restrictions. Developer libraries will be presented on November 12, and real devices will appear in the second half of 2008.
