Google has released the Linux version of Google Desktop

    Google today released the Linux version of Google Desktop software. Recall that initially the company introduced the Windows version of the application, a couple of months ago the Mac version was released.

    The Linux version of Google Desktop is still available in beta, but with it, users of the open OS will be able to search for information on their computer and on the Internet.

    Today, Google Desktop for Linux includes three components: Comprehensive Indexing (information indexer), Quick Serch Box (a graphical component for searching) and Gmail and Web History Search (a tool for searching information in Gmail mailboxes and web browser histories).

    Like other versions of Google Desktop, the Linux version is available for free. The company says that this version was developed in the Chinese office of Google.

    Today, Google Desktop runs on Debian 4.0, Fedora Core 6, Ubuntu 6.10, SUSE 10.1, and Red Flag 5. You can download the new product at: desktop.google.com
