The number of WebOS surpassed 20 pieces

If you still believe that Google is really developing WebOS, or a virtual operating system inside the browser, but you can’t wait for it, then I can please you: such solutions already exist and there are more than 20 of them!

Of course, some virtual operating systems look awful and are in beta testing, but there are some very worthy developments in the review. Actually, I suggest the review itself :)
    1. Craythur . This WebOS is in beta testing and has an interface reminiscent of Windows Aero. On this virtue (and for someone not) Craythur end. But the shortcomings are just beginning - the applications themselves are not finalized, and their interface in most cases is in Spanish.
    2. Desktoptwo . This OS can be called high-quality and well-functioning. So, after registration you get your mini-site, as well as an electronic mailbox. Of more or less large applications, there is an HTML editor, OpenOffice, an RSS reader, an MP3 player and an instant messenger. Although, unfortunately, this service has small problems in usability and interface.
    3. EyeOS . This WebOS differs from others in that it is basically not a hosting, but a platform. EyeOS offers to upload your scripts to your own hosting and use it there. Although EyeOS can allocate space on its eyeos.info server , which lives off donations. The functionality of this WebOS is not bad, but the speed is low.
    4. Glide . It is worth starting with the fact that this OS is paid. It also has its own interface (the GUI does not resemble either Windows or MacOS ...), but this can be attributed to the minuses, as there are obvious problems with usability. As for functionality, it offers 1GB of space, you can create documents, have an RSS reader, a bookmark and meeting manager, chat, picture viewer and calendar ... not working.
    5. Goowy . This WebOS is in a favorable direction different from many others, since there are no problems with usability. Of the applications here there is a file downloader, an email client, an RSS reader, an instant messenger, a bookmark and contacts manager, and also a calendar. Unfortunately, for now, the service only works in IE.
    6. Orca . This OS has a player, Zoho Office office suite, RSS reader, calendar, notepad, several games and a file manager. Also, the developers of this service are preparing LiveCD Orczilla, booting from which you will get the usual desktop.
    7. Purefect . This WebOS is remarkable only in that it completely repeats the Windows interface, using even the same icons. Functionality is zero here - file manager and calculator ... That's it! :)
    8. SSOE . Here, unfortunately, nothing worked. The interface with these terrible huge icons also failed. However, the system developer said that only about 10% of the OS is currently written.
    9. XinDESK . This WebOS is still closed, so you just have to refer to the blog entries of the developer. It says that XinDESK allows you to open and save documents in standard office formats. It is also said that this OS will have an API, which makes it possible to write own applications for this WebOS.
    10. YouOS . This is a good WebOS with a high-quality interface. From the programs you can distinguish a good messenger, RSS reader, file manager and a couple more applications.
    11. DesktopOnDemand . Actually, this is not exactly WebOS - it is a LiveCD Linux in your browser. Yes, yes, this is a full-fledged Linux environment with 1GB of memory available to your needs. I think we can’t talk about functionality here now :) The only problem with DesktopOnDemand is logging in, because for this you need to download either a separate application or a Java applet.
    12. G.ho.st . This WebOS differs from others in that it has integration with Google docs and Flickr. Otherwise, it’s a regular WebOS with such standard things as an RSS reader, a browser, a notepad, a clock, an email client and a messenger.
    13. ODesktop . This WebOS is written in PHP and Ajax and its distribution can be downloaded and installed on your server. OS code is well optimized and does not require large capacities. Of the applications, a file manager, an audio player, a photo album, an instant messenger, an email client, a set of games, an RSS reader and a browser are available.
    14. AjaxWindows . This WebOS aims to repeat the environment of your "large" desktop. To do this, when the service starts, a setup wizard will appear, allowing you to synchronize your music, pictures, documents on your PC with AjaxWindows. There are some problems with usability, unfortunately.
    15. MyLGD . So far, this development is in the alpha stage, however, applications in it work faster than in some other WebOS. In general, we should expect polishing of this service ... It would be a good project.
    16. Nivio . This is also not exactly WebOS, using the idea of DesktopOnDemand, only instead of Linux there is Windows. Nivio offers each user 5GB of free space for documents and applications, and you can put here at least Photoshop, at least MS Office. All this miracle works with the help of Java-applet ... It works terribly slowly. By the way, how are things going with licensing? Microsoft will not cover all this shop?
    17. Schmedley . This development with its appearance resembles Mac OS X Tiger, which, of course, caresses the eye. There is even a bunch of widgets here. As for the applications, there is a notepad, a calendar, a reader of letters from Gmail, an RSS reader and a messenger. Moreover, this WebOS works very quickly and without a single glitch. Hooray!
    18. Dekoh . This WebOS does not apply to others in any way: Dekoh allows you to organize media files, and then publish them to the public. The Desktop Portal, a place for managing applications, even more resembles a CMS than an OS.
    19. Ironbox . In general, Ironbox is a platform for developing web applications, but with its graphical interface it falls under the category of WebOS. However, this "WebOS" is unsuitable for everyday tasks, because there are very few available applications now. It is hoped that the developers will expand the number of applications, because it is not difficult, since the platform is very flexible.
    20. The X GCOE . So far this is an early alpha version, but from the browser, audio player and chat present there, everything works very quickly and without obvious errors. It is worth waiting for the next releases.
There are several WebOS that have not been included in this review. But to know about them is still worth it:via Frantic Industries .
