Sony BMG offers novice musicians to become bloggers
The second largest record company in the world - Sony BMG announced that, starting this week, it does not accept demos of music on cassettes, disks and other similar media. Instead, musicians are encouraged to write about their creations on blogs at www.columbiademos.co.uk or www.rcademos.co.uk (using the Six Apart Vox platform ), posting music and photos there.
“Blogging is one of the main trends in the music industry,” says Gad Doetry, head of Sony's BMG UK. “Hundreds of thousands of blogs appear daily in the world, the blogosphere doubles every 230 days - and leading labels should take this trend into account when interacting with musicians in a new way.”
Sony BMG competitors are on the alert. The Universal Music label, owned by the French company Vivendi, has already launched an online store of classical and jazz music, which has a section for beginner musicians who can place their compositions in it.
