“Google. A Breakthrough in the Spirit of the Times ”- Exmo Book
On Friday night, walking along Tverskaya, I looked into the Moscow store. Here in the section where books are sold under the names “Business as Zen, Business as the Way. Lessons from Japanese Samurai ”and“ Jewish Business: 67 Golden Rules ”(this is not a joke, it is for sale there) and other waste paper of the“ How to Make a Million by Speculating ”class paper, I found David Wise’s book“ Google. A breakthrough in the spirit of the times. ”Exmo Publishing House. Actually, this book will be discussed.

Why did the book end up in this section? Not very clear. Moreover, the author himself writes the following: “I want to warn you: there is a large group of people who should never read this book. These are students and teachers of business schools. Why, you ask? Because practically every chapter gives examples of the overthrow of all theories taught in these schools. ”
And this is true. The book is not about how to make money, but rather about how to make your dreams come true. Moreover, the author always makes the difference between these two concepts.
I have not read the book to the end, but I can already tell you something about it.
First of all, you need to get ready to withstand a lot of laudatory paragraphs, and sometimes even pages addressed to Sergey Brin and Larry Page. After that, the onslaught of praise by Google itself will begin. If this stream of sweet molasses does not avert you, then in a couple of chapters you will get to the very essence.
Before us is the story of the creation of the well-known search engine. Literally from the birth of the main characters, to their embodiment of Google’s ideas in reality. The book is written in fairly lively language. No wonder, considering that David Wise is a Pulitzer Prize winner and journalist at the Washington Post. The book uses the materials of the editor of the same publication - Mark Malsid.
“Breakthrough in the spirit of the times” is not just a dry statement of facts. Rather, an emotional story about the fate of Sergey and Larry, while still a student at Stanford University, who created one of the most successful IT companies on our planet. A story about their families, who in many respects predetermined their careers, teachers and their first investors, about people who helped to create Google not with money, but with their support and work. And of course Stanford University, without which nothing would have happened at all.
About Stanford, you can generally write a separate post. The University supports any development and undertakings (including financially), subsequently not claiming results. This academic institution has become the cradle of large companies such as SUN and Yahoo.
And what, you ask, is a book outwardly? Why do they need as much as 361 rubles? The book is in a dust jacket, hardcover, the volume of 353 pages, high-quality paper, white (not newspaper, as in cheap publications), there are no illustrations, only a few pages of photographs at the end. In general, the layout is very simple, the font is quite easy to read, but the headings make you remember computer editions of the early 90s of the last century.
So, if you miss a couple of dinners, you can quite save on this, as it seems to me, a very interesting publication. At least I like it. A very inspiring work.
Well, if the book is not to your liking, you can always buy "Jewish Business". This edition costs only 79 rubles.
