Samsung Q1 vs Q1P: battery life test

The first Q1P autonomy graphSeveral weeks have passed since the first test of battery life Q1 Pentium M 1GHz (right) and around it has already begun an extensive discussion of the presence of LED backlight display. Is there an LED backlight? This is still not exactly known, despite a fairly active discussion and requests from suppliers.
Whether LED backlighting is used or not, the battery life of the Q1P has increased as well as the backlight brightness, by approximately 40%. An attempt to contact representatives of the Samsung PR service and get answers from them was unsuccessful. In the absence of official information, full battery life tests were conducted.
So, we present you the measurement methodology and the programs used:
    • Battery Eater Pro v.2.7
    • The battery is calibrated before the test.
    • I used a battery, in order to avoid errors.
    • BE Pro runs under Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 on both machines.
    • Both devices have 1 GB of memory (the strips are the same).
    • All automatic power management settings are disabled.
    • The backlight in Q1 is set to maximum, in Q1P it is set to 60% (in this mode, the backlights are the same).
    • Disabled power saving mode in BIOS.
    • BIOS Q1P disables Speed Stepping mode.
    • WiFi is included in both devices.

Accordingly, there are two main differences between the devices:
the 900 MHz Celeron processor versus 1 GHz Pentium M and the possible differences in the display backlight. In preparation for the test, everything was done so that the computers were configured as equally as possible. Keep in mind: the test is aimed at getting the minimum working time under maximum load. Accordingly, the operating time obtained as a result of the test may seem too small for you, but remember that this operating time with maximum load and during normal use the device will work longer. So, we will consider the received results. This graph shows that Q1 lasted 93 minutes: And this graph is already Q1P with a run time of 116 minutes.
    Battery Schedule Q1
I must say that the battery may not have been fully charged. Nevertheless, the results are quite indicative and quite suitable for comparison. As you can see from the tests, Q1P works 25% longer. This means 15W of consumption in Q1P and 18.7W in Q1. The 25% advantage is quite tangible and scalable. For example, Q1’s normal operating time is approximately 2 - 2 and a half hours, and turns into 2 and a half - 3 hours on Q1P. These figures are calculated, in actual use, discrepancies are possible both in the direction of reducing battery life, and in the direction of increase. Despite the fact that there is still no official answer from Samsung regarding changes in the backlight, nevertheless, you can notice the following differences of Q1P:
    Q1P Battery Schedule

    • The Q1P screen is about 40% brighter than its predecessor.
    • Under approximately equal conditions, Q1P works 25% longer.

We hope that this test will help you in choosing between the various UMPC options of both Samsung and other manufacturers.
