Online music sales doubled in 2006

According to the Associated Press , on Wednesday, a representative of the International Federation of Phonographic Industry ( IFPI ) said that in 2006 the volume of music sales via the Internet almost doubled and amounted to more than $ 2 billion - 10% of the music market.

However, IFPI notes that online music sales growth has slowed markedly compared to the year 2005, during which they tripled.

Federation Chairman John Kennedy said the digital music trade should offset the decline in demand for physical media (mainly CDs).

The most active buyers live in the USA, Great Britain and Japan, but Kennedy hopes that this year this list can be expanded to at least 10 countries.

According to IFPI, an impetus to the development of the industry should be given by the popularity of music gadgets, for the most part - phones with built-in players from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and, otherwise, Apple.
