Skype 8.0 came out: call recording and secret chats
Yesterday a new version of Skype 8.0 for desktops was released, which will replace Skype 7.0 (aka Skype classic). Microsoft offers all users to upgrade, because after September 1, 2018, only Skype 8.0 will continue to work. The company argues for blocking the old version by the need to ensure stable and reliable work in a homogeneous environment.

- HD video calls (1080p) and screen broadcasts are freely available to all users. The maximum number of participants is 24.
- Support for mentioning specific users in a group chat (@username).
- Media gallery chat.
- Share any files up to 300 MB.
At the same time, several additional functions are being rolled out over the summer:
- Call recording. Fully cloudy function: quietly recording calls using standard tools will not work. The recording includes video and screen broadcast.
- Secret chats on the standard Signal Protocol (see. FAQ ).
- Display avatars of those who read your message in a group chat.
- Invites from the profile for inviting people to join the conversation who are not Skype users.
- Group links. Quick invitation to group chat or group call for all participants on one link. Anyone who has received the link can join.
- Skype 8.0 for iPad.
