Google closes its Messenger Spaces
Google closes its Messenger Spaces just ten months after launch. The service will be completely stopped on April 17, 2017, according to the Google support page.
From March 3, 2017, Spaces will be available only in read mode, most likely, so that users have time to save important information somewhere else.
In the period until April 17, users can:
- view, edit and delete content;
- delete all created Spaces chats or exit them, and delete contacts;
- report support to rule violations and block users.
After this date, the Spaces project and all data will be deleted.
“Thanks to all those who used Spaces. It was a difficult decision and it’s hard for us to say goodbye to you, ”the project team wrote to users.
For the first time the messenger was introduced in May 2016. Spaces was equipped with a built-in search in Google and on YouTube, and the main target audience planned small groups communicating through collective chats. As planned by Google, Spaces could be used to discuss events and coordination.
In addition to Spaces, another Google project, Hands Free, was closed in February . With its help, it was planned to create a payment system for purchases using voice. After ten months of testing, the project was closed.
