The updated Raspberry Pi Zero microcomputer received camera support and still costs $ 5

    Less than six months after the release of the Raspberry Pi Zero microcomputer , the Raspberry Pi Foundation was able to present its first major hardware update to the developers. Its appearance after last November's triumphal announcement of the first version was expected, since the lack of a camera connector became at the same time the main weak point of the chip and the desire of many users.     Having retained its previous symbolic cost - $ 5, in its updated version the microcomputer received a camera connector compatible with two updated photo modules based on Sony IMX219 image sensors with back light (back-illuminated) and 8 megapixel resolution (3280 × 2464) presented in last month. The manufacturer promises a tangible increase in sensitivity, reducing the amount of noise and improving image quality.

    The module is connected to the connector that somewhat pressed the components from the left edge of the microcomputer board using a flat cable. The CSI connector used in Zero is 3.5 mm shorter than the adapter in the Pi 3, so it’s not possible to quickly rearrange an already purchased photo module - you will have to buy an adapter.

    As the founder of Raspberry Pi, Eben Upton, shared with the editors of Engadget, the team was lucky to fit on a Raspberry Pi Zero microcomputer with the size of a credit card a long-awaited camera connector used in other developer kits.

    Recallthat the first, released at the end of November 2015, version of the Raspberry Pi Zero microcomputer is equipped with a 1-core BCM2835 processor based on the ARM11 core operating at 1 GHz and LPDDR2 RAM with a capacity of 512 MB. The board also comes with a slot for installing a micro-SD memory card, a 40-pin GPIO connector, a mini-HDMI video output for displaying images with a resolution of up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, and two micro-USB ports. One of them serves to supply the microcomputer with energy, and the second is designed to exchange data with other devices. The size of the chip is 65 × 30x5 mm.
