HyperX Fury 3D - SSD with a clear pedigree

Friends, one of you already knows that a novelty has appeared on sale - SSD-drives of the HyperX Fury 3D line. There is very little information on the network about them, and below we will explain why this is so. But a holy place does not happen empty - where there are few facts, speculation and rumors arise, such is the nature of man. HyperX Fury 3D was no exception, about which they began to invent an utter savagery. So we are in a hurry to fill the information vacuum and test new drives.

    Genealogy

About 5 years ago, HyperX Fury drives appeared on the shelves. Many liked them due to their "tasty" prices and decent performance, these drives have become popular among gamers. By the way, even today HyperX Fury speed is quite enough for everyday work. Alas, the production of these drives had to be curtailed, because they used SandForce controllers, which went hand in hand. But the demand for fast and inexpensive drives for gamers has not gone away, so the pedigree tree HyperX Fury has not withered and continued to grow.

We recently toldAbout HyperX Fury RGB. Also SATA in the 2.5-inch form factor, but its feature is the LED color backlight. The novelty is not for the mass consumer, but for connoisseurs of modding with component lighting. It’s understandable, the average user who collects a gaming computer in a deaf building, the delights of illumination are uninteresting, and the conservative part of the audience the very abbreviation RGB is already indignant :).

As a result, HyperX Fury 3D appeared - inexpensive and fast gaming drives without any candy wrappers. Everything is strictly and on business.

    HyperX Fury 3D

Do not try to find English-language reviews - this is not a mass product yet: HyperX Fury 3D is currently sold only in Russia and Ukraine. And not at every corner, but only through some partners. All these limitations are connected with the fact that we want to first evaluate the reaction of customers to the properties and capabilities of the new product, before offering it around the world. This is especially nice, because not so often the major global manufacturers choose our region for the debut of new devices.

Since HyperX Fury 3D is currently only available from a small number of companies, little is known about these drives to the general public. And rumors spread - they say it's all refurbished devices. It looks more like a malicious stuffing, but one of the unprepared readers may believe it.

Let's see what HyperX Fury 3D really is. More precisely, a 240-gigabyte model with the factory index KC-S44240-6F.

    Appearance

Accessibility is one of the main concepts that underlie the HyperX Fury family. Therefore, the drive comes in a compact blister, which can be opened only by cutting.

The package is ascetic, in addition to the drive itself, the blister has a glued frame made of soft foam and a signature sticker.

The design of the drive itself is almost no different from the "progenitor", HyperX Fury.

By the way, pay attention to one of the “degrees of protection”: over the designation of the drive’s capacity, a piece of gray strip shimmers differently if you turn the device slightly under light.

There is nothing to catch on the back of the eye, smooth aluminum.

The dimensions of the drive are 100.3 x 70 x 6.7 mm (measured with a caliper, since there is no data on the line on the official website yet).

    Insides

Now let's see what HyperX Fury 3D has inside - let's open the device.

The board occupies only half of the case. This is due to the miniaturization of the memory chips - the 240 GB HyperX Fury 3D uses four Micron 3D TLC 8UA2D NW912 chips, two on the one side and two on the other.

HyperX Fury 3D uses the Kingston CS4341AA as a controller. Really Kingston himself began to produce controllers ?! Not really. Under this label is the SATA3 TFBGA144 SM2258XT from SMI. This universal controller uses the NANDXtend proprietary error correction algorithm (ECC).

    Testing

Now let's see what various utilities for testing drives will show us. The drive is connected to the system board, not even initialized or formatted yet. First, run CrystalDiskInfo 8.x:

Immediately after formatting, launch CrystalDiskMark 6.x:

I was curious to compare with my personal HyperX Fury, also a 240-gigabyte one, which has been working with my system drive since October 2015. Now its characteristics are as follows:

But back to our newcomer. What will the TxBENCH benchmark show us?

    Anvil's Storage Utilities:

And finally, the results of the PC MARK 8 benchmark, which emulates the bandwidth for different applications:

By modern standards, my computer does not pull too much on the gaming, as you can see from the specification, except for the video card, which is still quite good. But even this configuration allows you to comfortably play modern shooters, - yes, with only 8 GB of RAM - including in Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5. True, I prefer Battlefield 4, which works without problems on the ultra graphics settings. Transferring the installed game (about 65 GB) to HyperX Fury 3D:

Transferring the game to HyperX Fury 3D.

At that speed, 95% of the game was copied. I launch the shortcut, until the main menu appears about 35 seconds have passed. A little less than 32 seconds, it took from the beginning of the connection to one of the servers until the entry into the game.

I’m transferring the game back to my system disk, there is a difference in recording speed between the old Fury and the new Fury 3D:

    Finally

HyperX Fury 3D is a new inexpensive SSD drive that will be interesting for widespread use in home computers as a system drive, as well as for assembling entry-level and mid-range gaming machines: even my, not the latest and most powerful computer comfortably pulls modern 3D games. Yes, not at maximum settings, but the “bottleneck” is not the performance of the SSD, but the capabilities of the video card. During the games, there are no brakes due to the “thoughtfulness” of the drive, but this model is already 5 years old. And HyperX Fury 3D surpasses my стари old man ’in all metrics, in fact, it is limited only by the SATA 3 bandwidth.

Of course, if we are talking about professional e-sports or dynamic modern shooters with maximum settings on a 4K monitor, then these are completely different computer configurations, other bus bandwidths and interfaces. For these machines are other drives. And HyperX Fury 3D is a real “people's” SSD for everyday work and games. Indeed, despite the technological progress and the release of ever more high-speed drives, the most popular are still 2.5-inch models with a volume of 120 and 240 GB.

HyperX Fury 3D SSDs are exclusive to Citilink stores at recommended retail prices:
    HyperX Fury 3D 120 GB - 1890 rubles.
    HyperX Fury 3D 240 GB - 2990 rub.
