Lecture "Cold Treasures of Far Away"
2015 can be called the year of dwarf planets - the Dawn probe entered orbit around Ceres, New Horizons flew past Pluto. And the beginning of 2016 was marked by talk of a distant and mysterious ninth planet. It's time to talk about the outer solar system. This is my next lecture on “Cold Treasures of Far Away.” It is distant and cold, but it contains a lot of interesting things. Methane rivers and icy shores, subglacial oceans with possible life, asteroid detectives, discoveries at the tip of the pen and the "eyes" of guns.
It's funny, but the story with this lecture is somewhat illustrated by the proverb “there would be no happiness, but misfortune would help”. The fact is that I usually lectured in anticafe, but there was an overlay - the time was already taken after the approval and announcement. I began to think whether to look for another venue or change the time of the lecture, but suddenly they called me from the Ufa planetarium and invited me to give a lecture at them. For my part, I express my gratitude to the planetarium team and personally to the director Anatoly Pavlovich Denisov for providing a wonderful platform. I hope our cooperation will continue.
This time I decided to slightly change the format of the lecture. First of all, I reduced its duration to about an hour (before the lectures went from an hour and a half, and once, when no one stopped me, I talked for almost four hours). I think this format will be a little easier to read. Also, the text completely disappeared from the slides, which, in theory, should simplify the perception of the material. Feel free to write reviews and comments, I will be grateful for the feedback.
As usual, the presentation is available in ODP format , use for health.
This presentation also used this beautiful video:
My other lectures are available under the tag "Lectures on Cosmonautics" .
Also, do not forget to vote for the translation of the term "St. George's Night", which you like best.
