team of students from MIT this Saturday has been declared the winner in the design competition Hyperloop capsule. In total, more than 1000 people took part in the competition, divided into 120 teams. The second place was taken by participants from the Netherlands Institute of Technology, the third - from the University of Wisconsin.

First-place teams will be able to build and test capsules for the future high-speed transport on the kilometer test track, which will be built in California in 2017.

Musk himself unexpectedly for the contestants honored them with his presence, which caused a storm of emotions and a flurry of applause among students who highly value his achievements.

“My main goal when creating the Hyperloop was to fuel interest in new vehicles, ” Musk admitted from the competition scene. - It starts to seem to me that this project will really be implemented. With such attention to it, it becomes clear that people from all over the world are demanding the creation of a new transport, and it is you who will give it to them. ”

“I really like the idea that we can live in one city, work in another, and have a transport system fast enough for this,” Musk said. He also, in particular, said that this year his company most likely will organize another contest, the theme of which will be the development of not the capsules, but the route itself, i.e. pipes.

Hyperloop is a transport system project where capsules with people will move inside a pipe with a rarefied atmosphere. It is assumed that the speed of movement of the composition will exceed 1100 km / h.
