You can watch your favorite shows while your Volvo self-driving car is driving.

No one can say for sure when self-driving cars will become an integral part of our daily lives . But when that happens, Volvo wants you to just relax and enjoy your favorite shows while the car takes you to your destination.

At CES 2016 in Las Vegas, Volvo said it was working with Ericsson to create an uninterrupted channel to watch your favorite shows while traveling.

Using a network and cloud data, a Volvo self-driving car can calculate the length of the journey and select content that is equal in duration to it. It will be smart technology that will provide only high-quality video.
 

“According to research, almost 70% of mobile traffic falls on video. New methods of connecting, analyzing and processing information for working with self-driving cars during their movement are required. At the same time, the data transmission channel must be uninterrupted and provide high quality video, ”explains Claes Herlitz, head of Ericsson's network automation department.

 

 

“Recently we presented our vision for the Concept 26 project for self-driving cars. Now we are working on solutions that will help improve the interaction between the driver and the self-driving car. Imagine a track with many such cars. They ride on their own, and passengers, relaxing, watch their favorite shows with high resolution. But for the comfort and positive experience of such trips, new technologies are needed to ensure high-quality data transmission, ”says Andres Tylman, CEO of Volvo Monitoring & Concept Center at Volvo Car Group.

 

 

“If you want to watch a series of your favorite series, the car will calculate the length of the journey and optimize the route. When it comes to self-driving cars, the point is not to get from point A to point B. It is important how you want to spend this time. With our technologies, we will be able to provide drivers not only with an ideally suitable route, but also with relevant content, ”he added.

 
In 2015, Volvo announced that they would take full responsibility for accidents that occur with the participation of their self-driving cars, as they are confident in the safety of their developments.
