First National Video Game Museum in the USA

Good news for founders and fans of interactive entertainment who are interested in history. The US National Video Game Museum will be built in Texas. According to the official website, its initial location was planned in Silicon Valley, in the cradle of IT technology, however, on September 18, the location of the museum was announced, now the city of Frisco (Texas) became the mecca of all US gamers.

The initiative to create a historical museum for the development of video games arose back in 2009, when Joe Santauli, Sean Kelly and John Hardy combined their collections.

In their common possession now there are many exhibits: little-known arcade machines, prototypes of consoles, thousands of accessories for gamers, discs, cartridges (and many other interesting things).

The museum has never had a permanent "residence". Guys brought their exhibits to exhibitions such as the GDC, organized field exhibitions and events.

Now the situation will change for the better. Game industry artifacts will find a real home. It is possible that soon the video game museum will become a kind of club for gamers from around the world.

This project was given the opportunity to develop thanks to the Frisco Public Development Corporation, which allocated $ 800,000 for its construction. It is not strange, but the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau donated money for the development of the museum. To maintain the museum, it was possible to raise over $ 1,000,000. The organizers themselves do not plan to use these funds to sweeten their lives, these enthusiastic collectors plan to use them exclusively to equip the building and replenish, now, the general collection.

The board of directors of Frisco Community Development Corporation has decided that a non-profit project will be allocated about 970 square meters of space. US National Video Game Museum Settles at Texas Frisco Discovery Cente

The founders of the museum, Sean Kelly and John Hardy, stated that their main goals are to convey to visitors a unique history of the development of the gaming world, preserve games for future generations and create the largest video game hall in the world. The main exhibits of the museum are designed to tell about the history of the gaming industry and the games themselves. Kelly and Hardy mentioned their plans to conduct various seminars and trainings, which will contribute to understanding the basic knowledge necessary to create games (for example, co-founders offer museum visitors to learn how to develop their own version of the game Pong, etc.). The museum will cover several decades of development.

The museum will open its doors to everyone in December this year. From there, he will be able to bring peace and enlightenment to the masses, telling about the history of the development of games from the middle of the twentieth century to the present day, slightly looking into the future.

Users will be able to learn about the evolution of consoles, see rare instances of classic games, arcade machines from the 1980s, the evolution of consoles, as well as rare artifacts, of the never-released Sega Neptune console and Atari Mindlink controller. In general, the collection has thousands of items that are priceless for every gamer.

In an interview with local CBS News, Santulli said the current US National Museum of Video Games has a collection of 45 hardware games covering almost the entire history of game consoles.

British scientists have found that their level of satisfaction with their own lives and social skills depend on the time that children spend on video games.

Children playing video games have fewer emotional problems.

Psychologist Andrew Pzhibilsky analyzed the data of a survey conducted among 5 thousand children aged 10 to 15 years about the time they spend playing games on a computer or console. The results of the study were published in the specialized journal Pediatrics.

75% of respondents said they play video games every day.

Scientists have determined that children who play video games for less than one hour a day are in a more balanced state than those who do not play at all. Those who play have a higher rate of positive social interaction and a lower level of hyperactivity, and they also experience fewer emotional problems.

If the time spent playing computer games exceeds three hours, children begin to experience general dissatisfaction with life.

Although some scholars associate computer games with cruelty, the key criterion remains the introduction in families of rules that limit the time a child spends at a computer.
