Which hand to press the key [6] - right or left?
It would seem that the question is idle. However, when it comes to creating a split mechanical keyboard, you need to decide on which half this key will be located, and, as it turns out, the answer to this question is ambiguous.
I recall an old joke: a bearded professor walks through the university building and meets a student. A student asks: “Tell me, do you put a beard under a blanket or on a blanket when you sleep?” “Yes, I somehow did not think about it,” the professor replies and leaves. A week goes by. The same professor, with a green face and red eyes, meets the same student and says: “Well, you bastard! I can’t sleep a week already - and so uncomfortable, and so uncomfortable! ”
Background abroad
Already in the 19th century, we see different points of view. Here is the book of 1889, according to which the key [6] must be pressed with the right hand.

And here is another book, published just 4 years later, in which our key is already on the left half:

The fate of the six is no easier in the 20th century. Here is the instruction manual printing from Imperial, where it is on the right side:

But the other two, where there are six on the left:

Background in Russia
If we take the history of Russian typewriters, then it becomes quite interesting. For example, on pre-revolutionary models, such as on this Underwood model, there was no number 1, since it was replaced by beech i, numbers 3, it was replaced by the letter z, and the numbers 0, because instead they pressed o:

in this layout, not only [6], but also [7] was pressed with the left hand.
After the cancellation of i, the unit had to be returned, and this model is already with it, correspondingly 6 shifts to the right:

And in the book by Makarova N.V. “50 typing lessons.” The keys are located as follows:

And here is the picture from the book “Self-print Typing Guide” from A. Smooth (there is probably a typo with the E key):

On the simulator’s website, “Stamina”, [6] is also pressed with the left hand:

It would seem that everything is simple: the key located above [E] and [H] is pressed with the left hand, but As can be seen from the discussion on the forum , not everyone agrees with this, and it is more convenient for many to reach out to her right.
As you can see, there is no single answer. It will be interesting to know with which hand you press 6.
