Sensoria: smart socks that help you run properly

Socks are an element of clothing worn by hundreds of millions of people. Heapsylon decided to make smart socks that would help the owner monitor their activity, including tracking the correct positioning of the foot and ankle during running exercises. Injuries while running are a common occurrence, and both professionals and those who start running get injuries.

Improper placement of the foot and ankle can lead to serious foot problems. Not everyone can ask the advice of a more experienced runner or doctor, which is why Sensoria's smart socks came into being, performing both the function of a fitness tracker (of which there are dozens of models) and monitoring the loads on the foot and ankle with the logging of all data received during workout.

The main task that the developers set themselves was to reduce the number of injuries among runner athletes and runners. According to the authors of the project, more than 65% of runners get injured every year. And the system developed by Heapsylon can teach a person how to run correctly with a demonstration of all received data in real time.

It turns out that while running you can injure your knees, ankles, feet and leg entirely.

The most common injuries of runners.

    Knees.

Knee injury is one of the most common injuries; in percentage terms, this type of injury is 20% of the total number of injuries sustained by runners. Pain syndrome of the patella-femoral joint is the most common type of knee damage.

    Ankle

Runners who constantly increase the intensity and duration of their workouts often get problems with the Achilles tendon. In severe cases, the situation goes so far that the help of a surgeon is required.

    Shin Running

pain in the lower leg is also common. Pain manifests itself during heavy loads on the leg, but if the load is reduced, then the pain subsides.

    Foot

Runner, who does not care too much about the correct setting of the foot and moderate training, is threatened by plantar fasciitis. This is one of the most unpleasant injuries in people who run often and often. Among runners, such an injury still appears with the name "vampire bite."

    What can Sensoria socks do?

In socks pressure sensors are placed. Information from these sensors is transmitted to the phone, in a special application, in real time. The pressure on the foot is visualized immediately, and the runner can evaluate the correct positioning of the foot during the training (of course, you won’t be able to see during the sprint run, but in the normal run). Data can be viewed after training.

    Rhythm monitoring

A small change in the pace of running can seriously reduce pressure on the thigh or lower leg, which reduces the likelihood of one of the injuries described above.

Sensors placed in socks calculate the steps taken by the athlete and give an accurate assessment of the pace of running. The application has a “metronome” function, which can be implemented using voice signals. This function allows you to maintain the necessary pace, calculating the number of steps taken per minute.

    Real-time feedback

After pairing the smartphone with Sensoria socks, the user gets the opportunity to work with The Sensoria Virtual Coach virtual trainer. The coach constantly monitors the activity of the athlete and gives feedback in real time.

    System components

The entire Sensoria system consists of three parts: the socks themselves with sensors and conductive elements (socks can be washed without any problems), a magnetic bracelet that is worn on the ankle and attached to the socks with special magnetic clasps, and a mobile application.

The system makes it possible to train with a virtual trainer. As a result, the runner receives the optimal amount of load on his legs, which reduces the likelihood of injury.

    How much is it?

The company’s website says that two pairs of socks with a bracelet cost $ 199. The fabric used to create the Sensoria is very durable, so you can not be afraid that after a couple of workouts, the socks will tear / tear.

An extra pair (without a bracelet) can be bought for $ 49. Separately, the bracelet can be bought for $ 159.

There is DevKit with a pair of socks, a bracelet, an HRM sensor and a t-shirt or bra instead of the usual $ 999 belt.
