Samsung Charm - one of the unobtrusive innovations and the cheapest fitness tracker *

    * In the Samsung lineup, of course. However, the company, apparently, is convinced that the gadget will have its own place in the niche, and since the entry into the domestic market was really not very loud, we decided to talk about this female device. Well, also because girls are attracted to everything pretty. And I already wrote about smart jewelry.

Charm appeared in some countries at the beginning of the year, after the announcement on MWC, and began to plan sales of the tracker in Russia in May . It arose, probably, in the wake of a general interest in inexpensive fitness trackers that could oppose the first Mi Band, such as Withings Go.

Despite the fact that the company Charm endowed the epithet of jewelry, the niche smart jewelry, it seems, he does not claim, at least because of a silicone bracelet. Nevertheless, Samsung prudently made the sensor removable, possibly for future accessories. Anyway Charm, or "first mi Band at the price of a second," relatively quietly became sold in Russia at the official price of 2490 rubles .

The premiere was quiet, probably due to the fact that the long-awaited Gear Fit 2 with GPS appeared almost in parallel , which they began to advertise and in every possible way to promote long before the release, spreading rumors and preparing fertile ground.

    Charm

The gadget is definitely addressed to the female part: it is light, thin, and the sensor is more likely to resemble a semiprecious pebble, smooth, symmetrical, generally “pretty”. It is sold in a round small package, inside of which only a proprietary docking station is an accessory, yes, they didn’t even put their cable. At the same time, the audience of female geeks is not considered as potential: rather, it can surprise those who accidentally entered the salon of communication with the Samsung smartphone.

The sensor, of course, is removed from the bracelet: just turn it slightly; then it can be placed for charging in the appropriate accessory.

    Synchronization The

device only works with Android smartphones. At the same time, to work with fitness statistics, you need to use the SHealth application , which recently, by the way, was updated. The fact that the data is pulled precisely with Charm can be observed by pulling down to update, and from the side:

However, in order to get into it, you need to overcome the step in the form of the Charm application . After installation and launch, the application will start looking for a bracelet, then the sensor will light up in one of the colors, and ask the application to clarify which ones. So they are synchronized.

By and large, the Charm app is no longer needed: the only thing you can configure is notifications. In a special menu, you can select applications, notifications from which you would like to see. The sensor will report about them with diode illumination. The blue light will flash for ten minutes, but there is no vibration reminder.

-Applications are Russified, just the base language of the smartphone with which the device was synchronized, English.

    What tracks

Charm is frankly “poor” in function. For example, there is no sleep tracker. It is possible that this is somehow due to the fact that the company plans to launch a separate SleepSense sleep tracker on the market . That is, Charm is an accessory for tracking physical activity at a level: counting steps, calories and distance.

    Pedometer

We have to admit: we face a pedometer. The simplest, but beautiful. We have been familiar with similar functions for so long that, if you start to remember, you have to admit that we are pretty old. Yes, it is stylish, but it is still difficult to position it as an accessory: after all, a silicone strap ...

As a smart assistant, it also does not seem universal in view of the limited display capabilities. Yes, and the main competitive advantage - the "smallest" has also been met. If you remember, the creators of the Goccia tracker made the same appeal.. And where are they now?

While the main motives for the purchase are seen - as a gift, and the price is in principle sparing: 2,490 rubles . Only now it’s far from the holidays.

    As a result

, the story is curious, and the question “why?” does not leave. Samsung is not a newcomer to the market of wearable devices - since 2013, it has been issuing gadgets that are becoming leaders, and here is an ordinary pedometer with a twinkle. At the same time, it was approved for sale almost immediately with Gear Fit 2 and in parallel with the Gear S2 update.

It is likely that for Samsung - this is an image gadget that they once did not make in the wake of the first Fitbit, Jawbone, and now they just put an end to it, having spent a little time. Should I buy it? Feels like it's either a souvenir or an item in the collection of loyal fans of the brand.
