Overview of the secure smartphone DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator: outlive everyone!

You may have already heard about the DEXP brand. He is still young, but is actively conquering the market. It owns the brand of the largest Russian electronics retail chain DNS (more than 1,200 outlets in 421 cities). The company was founded in Vladivostok and eventually “spread” throughout Russia. The main emphasis in its activities is on the inhabitants of the regions, and not on the satiated residents of the capital. For these reasons, the DEXP brand was created, under which the company brings high-quality smartphones to the Russian Federation at affordable prices. The trick here is that DNS is a very, very large network with a serious turnover. In the DNS, they do not spend energy and money trying to “break through” with their devices to the shelves of other equipment stores (which is not cheap, plus it significantly affects the price of products for consumers). There is a network - and DEXP devices, by and large, only in it and sold. And at very tasty prices.

Last year, DEXP introduced the Ixion line of smartphones. This is a “collection” of Android-backgrounds with different technical characteristics, but they are united by one thing - increased battery capacity. A similar solution is a novelty for the Russian market. The manufacturer for the first time gave consumers a large selection of "long-playing" smartphones. The line is being sold successfully. It is not surprising that it is constantly expanding. In the fall of 2015, another 8 models were added to the collection. The most curious of them is the secure DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator smartphone. The device is not afraid of immersion in water (to a depth of one meter) and dust. Protection class - IP67. Let's finally get to know the Dominator in detail.

    Contents of delivery

DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator comes in the usual DEXP black and blue box. In it you will find the smartphone itself, unpretentious headphones, charging and a data cable, instructions and warranty, as well as a removable antenna for using the device as a walkie-talkie and a screwdriver in order to remove the back cover.

    Appearance

The phone is big. Not. He is just huge! Especially when you consider that the screen has a diagonal of only 4.5 inches. A real "brick" in thickness - like three ordinary smartphones. However, there can be no other way, because before us is an impact-resistant device in a powerful rubberized case. Using smartphones with one hand is quite difficult. Well, except that you have a very big hand. You need to understand that this device is not for everyone, but only for those whose work or hobbies are associated with some kind of extreme. That is, for builders, fishermen, climbers, lumberjacks and so on. Convenience here fades into the background, the main thing is endurance.

The DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator rests securely in the palm of your hand thanks to its rubberized body. The material is "coarse", while it is not covered with scratches or fingerprints. The design of the tube as a whole can be described as brutal, but bright.

The front panel has a yellow border and is protected by Gorilla Glass 2. Above the screen are a speaker, a front camera, light and proximity sensors, and a microphone under the display. On-screen control buttons.

The yellow border of the screen is not just a design element. It is also rubberized and protrudes above the screen for a couple of millimeters. This protects the display glass from scratches and other damage when dropped on hard surfaces.

On the rear panel there are a camera and a flash recessed deep into the body (it’s a flashlight), slots in the speaker. Part of the back cover is removable. It is attached mega-securely to 6 bolts (to unscrew them, you need a screwdriver). Under it, you will find two microSIM slots, a microSD slot and a battery-brick (4,200 mAh is not a joke!).

The removable cover is worth a look again. Firstly, it has a plastic frame inside. This frame fits exactly into the rubber seal of the battery compartment, thus ensuring the tightness of the inside of the phone. Secondly, the bolts hold tight in the removed socket, that is, losing them is unrealistic.

On the left side of the phone are volume control keys, as well as a camera start button. A double-click on the camera’s button turns on the laser pointer (its “eye” is located on the top of the smartphone). The keys are built into the rubber casing of the device for tightness, so they are pressed quite tightly, but clearly.

On the top panel of the phone is the already mentioned laser, the power / lock key, and also the antenna connector hidden under the plug.

There are three more keys on the right side of the device.

One is SOS (the emergency alert option for relatives is more common for “grandmothers,” but travelers or employees of dangerous professions will also come in handy), the second is to turn on the flashlight, and the third is to activate communication by walkie-talkie.

At the bottom of the phone, under the massive dummy with special “cloves”, there is a headphone jack and a microUSB connector. Using this plug is quite convenient, as the developers have well thought out the opening / closing mechanism.

Two SIM card slots and one microSD card slot are located under the cover.

    Display

DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator uses an IPS matrix without air gap. We liked everything - juicy shades, a high margin of brightness, maximum viewing angles. The resolution is 960 x 540 pixels, and with a diagonal of 4.5 inches, the graininess does not strike the eye.

    Camera

The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels. The module provides pictures and videos of good quality. It focuses and shoots quickly, the photos are clear, the colors are "live". Although such a brutal apparatus was clearly created not for highly artistic photos. Like not for a selfie. However, the 2 megapixel front camera allows you to make decent quality frames or chat via video.

Examples of photos from the main camera:

    Hardware platform

In DEXP, they were so carried away by the protection of the device that they paid attention to the iron "stuffing". The smartphone operates on the basis of the 4-core MediaTek MT6589 chip (1.2 GHz cores). It was announced already in 2013. On the other hand, the amount of "RAM" is quite acceptable for such a screen resolution - 1 GB.

We do not claim that Dominator "slows down". In normal use, everything is smart. The interface works smoothly, applications start and switch without problems. A lot of tabs in the browser or downloading / updating a large number of programs can make the device a little “twitchy,” but this is not critical. HD video plays flawlessly. But modern 3D-games like Asphalt 8 or Dead Trigger 2 will run without obvious lags only at the minimum level of graphics.

On the other hand, this is not a gaming smartphone. And if you want to play cards in the campaign or leave the "evil birds" - there are no problems with casual games.

In the benchmarks "Dominator", of course, also does not shine.

The amount of flash memory is 8 GB. In reality, a little more than half is available, the rest "eats" the OS. If you actively listen to music or watch videos, then 8 "gigs" will clearly not be enough. A slot for memory cards (up to 32 GB) is always at your service. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n. The navigation module determines the position quickly and clearly. There is support for 3G and two slots for SIM cards - in general, a standard set for such smartphones.

An unusual option - Walkie-Talkie, in other words - work as a walkie-talkie. Standard - UHF 400-470 MНz, power 1 W. Travelers and all kinds of extremals will definitely come in handy.

Recall that to use the radio you need to attach the antenna from the kit. It looks cool - the handset begins to resemble brick phones from the 90s!

“Dominator” also has a built-in magnetic sensor. This means that he has a full-fledged compass, and not a digital one, like other smartphones. "Campers" will also come in handy. The sound in the headphones or dynamics did not cause any complaints from us. Especially note the very, very high volume level. When talking, too, everything is fine - the transmission of speech and audibility at the level.

    Software part

Due to the use of the old chipset, the OS version is obsolete - Android 4.2. Updates, most likely, will not be. We believe that this is not critical for the main audience of the device - all current software on version 4 works and will work for a long time.

    Battery

If you have not forgotten yet, our “Dominator” belongs to the series of “long-playing” smartphones of the DEXP Ixion series. And the battery with a capacity of 4,200 mAh covers all its disadvantages. As for the hardware, the device is rather weak - the old chipset, low screen resolution, so there is nothing special to “eat” the battery. In a standard use case (every day 30-40 minutes of calls, 1-2 hours of internet, periodically launching GPS to build a route, often - listening to music, reading or casual games, a few photos) the phone lasted for 3-5 days! If you go online and use various programs even less often, then 7-8 days on a single charge is a reality!

    A few more measurements:

    ● Internet surfing over Wi-Fi - up to 14 hours.
    ● Watch HD video - up to 16 hours.
    ● Reading - up to 20 hours.
    ● Listening to music with the screen off - up to 42 hours.
    ● Casual game - up to 15 hours.
    ● 3D game - up to 9 hours.

In general, with the DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator you can go on the most distant hike and climb the highest mountain.

    conclusions

DEXP turned out to be an excellent smartphone for a certain category of users. He is super-mega-durable (tested and dropped!), Not afraid of water (yes, and drowned) and dust. It also has a 4,200 mAh battery and can last more than a week on a single charge! The handset is perfect for travelers, lovers of extreme tourism and various active sports, for workers in hard and dangerous professions.

Just imagine - you went hunting and got lost. Launched a compass or maps with GPS - oriented. If it’s dark, they turned on the flashlight (it is very bright). If your colleagues are somewhere, and cellular communication doesn’t “catch”, they contacted by radio. We saw a helicopter - lit with a laser pointer to be noticed. Everything is very bad, are you exhausted? Press the SOS button and notify relatives or colleagues. In the end, they dropped the device into a dirty swamp - they caught it, poured water from a bottle and went on to hunt further. Cool thing for real men!

We also mention the high sound volume, high-quality materials of the case, reliable assembly, good cameras, an excellent IPS screen, a large number of keys on the sides of the case to enable various options.

Are there any downsides? Firstly, the device is too big and thick. But a super rugged phone cannot be thin and elegant. Secondly, the 4-core chipset is weak and old by today's standards and, as a result, is an outdated version of Android. But the target audience of the protected handset is hardly critical. The device costs 15,990 rubles. Obviously, most of the amount is not for the standard "stuffing", but for a very reliable case and additional features like a walkie-talkie, laser, magnetic sensor, emergency notification options, etc.

The DEXP Ixion P145 Dominator will truly stand any extreme test. And help them withstand you.
