Android VLC Player Releases Beta

    Known for its omnivorous and multi-platform open and free VLC player for Android, it officially received version number 1.0, exiting beta status, which it has been in for almost two years since its appearance on Google Play in July 2012.

    Like the desktop counterpart, VLC for Android supports many formats of audio and video files, including streaming playback, audio and video libraries with a full search for them, support for subtitles and gesture control (although the previously announced support for Google Chromecast is not yet available). All versions of Android are supported, starting with ancient 2.1 and ending with 5.0 Lollipop.

    Despite the fact that the VLC description in the Play Market has not yet been edited, the stern warning that the beta users have known has disappeared:
