The decision of the issue with an Internet in the country

As you know, the slow internet is somehow particularly harmful to the nervous system. This note is based on our own history of numerous attempts to ensure an acceptable Internet speed in the country. Of course, the operators are great, they are constantly expanding the network and communication is getting better, but our place is located in a lowland, beyond the forest, to the nearest tower five kilometers, and to the one that "shines" in my direction, all eight in general.

So, let's begin. A good and high-quality Internet is an essential thing, as you can endlessly fry kebabs and steam in the bath, without the necessary minimum brain training - not a 100% comfortable environment.

Even in the prehistoric zero, I recall how EDGE and something like 80-120 kbps appeared with a phone on the second floor and a bluetooth connection - this was the first little step into the feeling of “well, at least something”. Further, I remember a long and very expensive experiment with Skylink, which is “safe”, different from everyone and at that time it had the “largest” coverage area in the Moscow Region due to a signal with a relatively small number of megahertz. But here I remember a very costly joke with an endless upgrade. Usually, you want more, more, more — it always looks like a challenge, like a competition — first a modem, then a pigtail and antenna, plus twist it a couple of days, reconfigure from station to station — now I finally found why it’s bad again, and then - the cable is better, the antenna is higher. In general, Skylink is probably the only operator for the equipment of which I spent more money than for communication. I admit that selling antennas and constantly upgrading is one of their marketing strategies. In the end, the "ordinary" operators are all in the same conditions - the coverage area within the framework of one standard under the same power conditions is similar. And experimenters go to Skylink, who have an extra ten and a couple of weeks of free time lying around to spit in six months and forget about this catchy nightmare. Although, for a couple of years, at the dawn of the development of the rest, they probably provided something in speed, but I probably met them too late. “Ordinary” operators are all in the same conditions - the coverage area within the framework of one standard under the same power conditions is similar. Next was 3G and a 10-meter mast with a panel antenna, which, coupled with unlimited Internet from MTS for a year, pleased with loading under ten megabits, especially when the leaves fell from the trees and there wasn’t any noise for the signal “there’s that neighbor’s grove opposite. " Well, you know, up to 15-18 the speed rose. I used then I used one antenna and, given the complexity of dismantling the mast, I did not climb there so often.

To the question: “how much should the Internet be?”, I will answer: “unlimited,” especially today. Firstly, a video for children, and secondly, downloads in the evening. Providers boast - as much as 30 GB! .. What is 30 GB? Well, if the week of Dasha and the Blue Tractor from YouTube. This is nothing. No, of course, DVD and mail checking once a week are enough for someone, but there shouldn’t be any limits for the media player and IP camera.

LTE with Megaphone and Iota were connected later. Forced necessity when disconnecting an option from MTS. The speed is half that of 3G from MTS. This LTE story lasted four years. It immediately became clear that there will be no other technology besides wi-fi connection through some provider, and I got into the configuration very closely. An alternative was found with channels of 25 and 60 Mbps, but the initial contribution of more than 12 thousand rubles, while Iota somehow gave out its 3-5 Mbps with a ping of less than 30, was in question. And it’s not even a matter of money, but rather of being able to manage at least something that, in the case of different LLC’s experimenting in the region, is almost impossible - it is hardly possible to count on a quick solution to the problem on Saturday night, if such how are you in this area five to seven people. Generally, for Iota, another panel antenna was purchased and placed on the same mast. The best and most expensive thick cable connected the E392 to my antennas, but the speed did not rise above seven Mbps, it jumped back and forth, I calmed down on this.

But a couple of months ago, the presence of free time also came together and got tired of two or three Mbits in speed test with a caching wheel in the middle of the screen. To which I just didn’t sin - maybe wi-fi crashes (routers also appeared in the neighbors) and so on. The operator says "no, there is no download, everything is fine." They have MIMO in the technology standard, but I have two antennas ...

In general, there are many companies offering "wi-fi in the country." I think that at least 95% of them also provide a connection via a cellular network and put a regular router. The user gets his wi-fi and something works somehow there. This service costs with an antenna, mast and tuning in the region of 15 thousand rubles. I personally rummaged through dozens of resources on the topic and in none other than the description of the MIMO technology did I find practical recommendations for setting up the antennas. Nowhere. The best confirmation will be the statistics of speed measurements on 2ip.ru, where of the twenty results on the first page, no one has above 14 Mbps, and up to ten is the standard.

The whole thing, in fact, turned out to be the polarization of the antennas. I have two antennas, one of vertical polarization, the other set to horizontal. Normally in this position it did not work until I, with a squeak of heart and laziness, once again did not lower my mast from heaven and deployed antennas at 45 'from the vertical. And ... oh, a miracle! I don’t know when they turned it on - maybe recently, or maybe I just overlooked and tormented to turn the mast back and forth without turning the antennas around its axis except 90 '(everywhere it says “vertical and horizontal”), but I got a straight line statistics at the level of twenty on the incoming channel and five outgoing, as the operator confirmed - Iota has such restrictions.

So, the updated instruction:

  • mast 8-10 meters - 1 pc.
  • panel antennas - 2 pieces
  • the mast of the provider, which shines in your direction
  • place the antennas at an angle of 45 'from the vertical
  • by trial and error (two options) connect the pigtails and watch the speed

The comments are as follows:

  • second floor is possible, if only there was confidence that the line of sight to the station
  • it’s convenient to find the desired direction on Yandex.Map, and tie it to the surrounding area - the turn of the road, the angle of the fence, etc.
  • you can choose the right tower on the coverage map - there are usually three directions in which there is a clear increase in coverage area - do not go directly to the nearest station, it is better to choose the one that works in your direction and the open space was to the nearest serious obstacle
  • I have two antennas, but maybe someone will work if one is initially MIMO, but I can’t say anything here.

If connected correctly, see photo below. It cannot be guaranteed that the conditions are similar and the trees will not hinder, but I’m not looking at the nearest station for eight kilometers, but across the field, so the forest behind it no longer interferes with the signal.
